Sony Xperia Z, ZL Coming to India: 5 Potential Rivals Of The Waterproof Handset & IrDA Able Phablet

|

Sony seems to be impatient to boast about its stunning releases unveiled at CES 2013. You guessed it right! The talk is about, Xperia Z and Xperia ZL smartphones to as many markets as possible worldwide.

While, the Japanese tech giant Sony announced that the handsets will be released in the first quarter, however, the company seems to have been tight-lipped to announce when the smartphones will be coming to India.

Now, it appears like there is some light on when these amazing 5-inch smartphones with 1080p display will be making their way into the country.

According to the product listing on the official Sony India website, Xperia Z and Xperia ZL are listed with 'Coming Soon' status. This states that India is one of the few countries that will be graced by the presence of both the Sony offerings.

However, the listing made on the Sony India website does not reveal any information on when exactly these handsets will be released into the country. Though this listing by Sony cannot be considered a definite proof as the company lists and removes upcoming offerings quite often, the online retailers in the nation have also listed the handsets as 'Coming Soon'.

Speaking of specifications, both Xperia Z and Xperia ZL pack a 5 inch full HD capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and with Mobile Bravia Engine 2, quad core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, 13MP rear camera, 2.2MP front camera for video calling, 16GB internal storage, 2GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and 4G LTE.

Wondering about the difference between the two smartphones? Xperia ZL is heavier than Xperia Z, which could be due to its slightly larger battery of 2,370 mAh as compared to the 2,330 mAh of Xperia Z. Apart from this, Xperia Z is water resistance and dust proof, while its counterpart is not. Further, Xperia ZL has infrared/IrDA functionality, that will allow users to control the TV, cable box or any IR enabled entertainment device using the smartphone.

On the pricing front, though there is no official information on how much the new Sony smartphones might cost in the country, media reports claim that that they might be priced at Rs 35,000 approximately considering their specifications.

With the launch of these Xperia smartphones, Sony will be kicking off a tough competition with the other high-end smartphones and phablets that are already existing in the market including the newly launched HTC Butterfly, Apple iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Nokia Lumia 920 and LG Optimus Vu.
