When it comes to Android smartphone market Samsung has sizzled the tech arena with a slew of devices under its Galaxy lineup in the year 2012. However, talking about the next year, besides the South Korean tech titan, there are others who are prepping their biggest bets to scorch the showground. One of them seems to be Sony. The Japanese phone vendor is in talks these days for its Xperia Odin smartphone, which is constantly being revealed in the tech rumors and image leaks recently.

At the same time, Sony is also believed to working on its 5 inch HD display and 1080p high end device Sony Yuga.

Sony C660X Yuga to Come in 2013 As Xperia Z: Rival to Galaxy Note 2

As per the latest report by XperiaBlog, citing inside sources, Yuga will be launched at CES 2013 with a water resistant and dust proof build. Further, at the time of launch, the handset is bound to get a more market-friendly name - Xperia Z. Also, it will receive the IP57 certification for water and dust resistance and low reflectivity screen.

Going by the earlier rumors, Xperia Z smartphone could pack a 5 inch display with 1080p resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad core processor, Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean OS, 12MP/13MP rear camera with HD quality, IP57 certifications as in other handsets including Xperia V, Xperia Tablet S and HTC Butterfly. S

Further, several reports claim that the1080p display in Xperia Z will receive OptiContrast technology, which is used in Sony Televisions. This advanced technology in the display will provide vivid color with outstanding contrast. Moreover, the handset will also come with 2GB RAM, micro SD card slot for expandable memory support, HDMI out port and a unibody construction.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Challenger?

When speaking of devices with 5 inch displays categorized as phablets, the first device that would come to mind is Samsung's second generation device - Galaxy Note 2, which has marked a sales figure of 5 million in just 60 days of its release.

If the rumors turn out true, Sony Xperia Z with its 1080p display and better camera performance could definitely be a tough challenger to the hottest selling phablet - Galaxy Note 2.
