Sony Xperia Z1 Launched at IFA 2013: 5 Main Camera Phone Rivals Who will face the Heat Now
Chief Executive of Sony Corp., Kazuo Hirai, recently announced the most awaited camera centric smartphone, Xperia Z1 at the ongoing IFA Berlin trade fair. The handset comes in direct contrast to other mobile devices with latest imaging technology and innovations like Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom and Nokia Lumia 1020 which comes with stunning 41MP camera. So far the company did not mention anything about the price of the Xperia Z1 but they did mention about the global roll out starting September 2013.
Lets have a look at the specs of the device:
Display
The Sony Xperia Z1 comes with a 5-inch Full HD TFT capacitive touchscreen display powered by Sony's Triluminos technology and X-Reality engine. The display offers resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and stunning 441 ppi pixel density and features shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass.
OS, Processor and RAM
The device runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and is powered by a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Krait 400 processor clocked to 2.2-GHz coupled with 2GB RAM. On the graphic side, there is a presence of Adreno 330 as well.
Connectivity
Sony Xperia Z1 comes packed with a load of connectivity options like GPRS, EDGE, WLAN, Bluetooth, NFC, USB, WIFi and MHL.
Camera
The Xperia Z1 features a 20.7-mega pixel camera sensor ducked inside with "Sony's award-winning "G Lens" with a 27mm wide angle and bright F2.0 aperture, custom made large 1/2.3-type CMOS image sensor Exmor RS for mobile a BIONZ for mobile image processing engine". The camera is apt for taking images in the low light as well. Sony claims the Xperia Z1 comes with the best mobile camera experience in such a compact frame. It also features LED flash and 2 MP front facing shooter capable of shooting at 1080p@30fps is also added at the front.
Storage and Battery
The device houses a 16GB of ROM which is expandable up to 64GB via microSD card and the deive draws its power from a massive 3000mAh Li Ion battery.
Other features
Sony devices are known better for their waterproof build thus Xperia Z1 also comes with IP58 certification that makes it dust-sealed and water resistant up to 1 meter. Sony also announced four applications to be included inside the device. "Social life" is a name of app that lets you broadcast your thought on Facebook instantly. With "Info-eye", you can search for the nearest information on any items, simply by capturing them. "Timeshift Burst" mode let you take as many as 61 images in just 2 seconds. "AReffect" let you take images using Sony's famed Smart ARTM augmented reality technology. During the unveiling, Sony also announced that developers are fee to make more third-party apps for Xperia Camera apps. The device that measures 144 x 74 x 8.5 mm and weighs 170g will be available in three signature Sony colors: Black, White and Purple.
When it comes to the competition, Xperia Z1 will face a monster devices like Nokia Lumia 1020 and Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom in the market. Apart from these smartphones with best imaging capability, it will also have to rival with latest devices like LG G2, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and HTC Butterfly S.

Nokia Lumia 1020
The device comes with 4.5-inch AMOLED WXGA capacitive touch screen display giving resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. The display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for scratch and damage resistance and comes with 16 M color depth. Nokia's latest Lumia 1020 comes packed with a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset and Adreno 225 graphics. It is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual -core Snapdragon S4 processor coupled with 2GB RAM. As mentioned earlier, the camera sensor is huge and stands at 41-mega pixels with Xenon flash. Instead of standard camera interface, the company introduced Nokia Pro Camera app. There's a 1.2-mega pixel wide angle front facing camera. Connectivity options include GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth and USB. Also, the handset comes with the internal storage capacity of 32GB, however, lacks a microSD card support. In addition to ROM, users can take advantage of 7GB free SkyDrive cloud storage. Moreover, the Lumia 1020 is powered by a Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery that gives a 19 hours talktime on 2G and 13 hours in 3G, capable of offering 16 days standby time on 3G.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom
Priced at Rs. 29,999, Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom comes with a 4.3 inches Super AMOLED capacitive multi touch, touchscreen display that offers a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels and features 16M colors and 256 ppi pixel density. It is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The handset runs on Android OS, v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). S4 Zoom is powered by a Dual-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A9 processor and Pega-Dual +XMM6262 chip along with Mali-400 graphic. The handset is backed by 1.5 GB RAM. Moving into the camera segment, as the name mentions Zoom, it comes with 16 MP rear camera with autofocus and Xenon flash and can shoot videos at 1080p@30fps. The handset features BSI CMOS sensor with 10x optical zoom, Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) as well. While in the front face, the handset is attached to a 1.9 MP camera. Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom houses an internal storage capacity of 8 GB which can be expanded up to 64 GB via microSD card. Connectivity options include GPRS, SPEED, WLAN, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC and MicroSD. The handset is eventually powered by a Li-Ion 2330 mAh battery which offers up to 570 hours of standby time on 3G network and up to 13 hours of talktime on 3G.
LG G2
The recently annonced LG G2 features 5.2-inch Full HD IPS Super LCD2 display offering a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 443 ppi. It is powered by 2.26GHz quad-core processor powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset coupled with 2GB RAM and houses 16GB/32GB of internal memory. Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean comes out of the box. There's a 13-mega pixel rear facing camera sensor covered with scratch less material for protection. Also add a 2.1-mega pixel front facing camera. The main highlight of the rear camera is the coming of Optical image stabilization (OIS) feature with Auto Focus and LED Flashlight. The phone is ultra-slim at 8.99 mm thick. The device supports 4G LTE-Advanced connectivity and features 3G, NFC and other regular connectivity options as well. The IR Blaster is an addition. The device is powered by a 3000mAh Li Ion battery.
Samsungs Galaxy Note 3
The Galaxy Note 3 sports a 5.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED panel featuring 386ppi. The device will ship in two variants. The first being a variant with a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 chipset and a second one that uses a 1.9GHz Exynos Octa-core SoC (most likely to come to India). Sharing the similar specs the massive phablet comes with 3GB RAM, 13MP rear shooter with smart stabilization and a 2MP front-facing shooter. The device runs on the latest iteration, Android Jelly Bean 4.3. Also, the device can shoot 4K video, which happens to be four times higher on quality when compared to HD. One can find the phablet in 32GB and 64GB model with microSD card slot for further expansion. As far as the connectivity is concerned there is a IR LED, WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, MHL 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0. There's also LTE Cat4 support apart from quadband DC-HSPA+ 42Mbps and quadband GSM / EDGE. It is powered by a 3,200mAh removable battery. The device is recently announced and there is no confirmation on the price and availability as of now.
HTC Butterfly S
The smartphone comes packed with a 5-inch Super LCD 3 display offering a resolution of 1080p. It runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with a layer of HTC Sense 5.0 and BlinkFeed UI on the top. Further, the device is powered by quad core 1.9 GHz Snapdragon 600 processor coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage (expandable storage via a microSD slot). Talking about camera, 4.3-mega pixel UltraPixel rear camera can be seen along with a 2.1MP front facing snapper. The camera also features HTC Zoe software. Connectivity options include: 3G, Wi-Fi, DLNA, NFC, and GPS, among others. Newly launched Butterfly S is powered by 3200mAh Li Ion battery. HTC has added two front dual speakers powered by HTC BoomSound and Beats Audio as expected. The handset is currently selling at the price of Rs. 52,428.
Sony Xperia Z1 Battles Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and 4 Other Camera Centric Smartphones
After having a look at the specs all the handsets mentioned above, one can say that most of them come with a premium imaging technology. All these devices obviously fall in a high end price range. Moreover, compared to all Lumia 1020 comes with the better camera but that doesn't mean that more Megapixel featuring camera will give better picture quality all the time. However, Nokia comes with better low light imaging and image quality. Sony Xperia Z1 with CMOS image sensor Exmor RS for mobile does offer an intense image quality as well. Thus again, price factor comes into play here. In terms of power, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will definitely take the throne. Adversely, Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 comes with a relatively complicated User Interface compared to other devices in the lot which could affect the sales of the device in the market.
