Spice Mobility isn't expected to unveil its new Android One smartphone until September 15, but that hasn't stopped Flipkart from giving consumers a peek at the new shiny device.
According to specs published on Sunday on the e-commerce giant's website, the Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 will cost Rs. 6,999 and features a 4.5-inch display. The listing, however, was pulled immediately.
The budget handset, which will go on sale in India on Monday, comes with a modest 4.5-inch FWVGA IPS display. Under the hood is a 1.3GHz quad-core Mediatek processor with Mali- 400 GPU, paired with 1GB of RAM, 4GB of native storage and an expandable storage up to 32GB.
The dual-SIM supported handset runs on Google's Android 4.4 (KitKat) mobile OS. In the imaging department, it comes with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter.
Other connectivity options are as follows: 3G, Wi-Fi, FM Radio, a 1700mAh battery, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS and more.
After several teases, Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 is scheduled to get proper launch treatment at an event on September 15 in New Delhi. Spice has exclusively tied up with India's most well known e-commerce retailer Flipkart. The Android One smartphone from Spice will officially go on sale on Sept 15 at 3:30pm.
Other than Spice Mobility, Micromax and Karbonn are set to launch their respective Android One phones at the same event. All three domestic handset makers have tied with three different e-retailers- Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal to retail their respective Android One smartphones.
Not just Spice, Micromax has teased its first ever Android One smartphone without giving enough details. The budget device will be available in September, exclusively on Amazon.
These low-cost phones will be unveiled by Sundar Pichai, Google's SVP of Android, Chrome & Apps in New Delhi on Sept 15. Google first revealed the details of its Android One initiative at this year's Google I/0.
