Swipe MTV Volt Phablet Launched at Rs 12999: 5 Rivals Which May Stumble in The Race Now

Owing to increasing penetration in the Indian market in a very short span, California based tech firm Swipe Telecom has now come up with a phablet. The recent offering - MTV Volt has been launched in collaboration with music and entertainment channel MTV at Rs 12,999.

MTV Volt has several highlights including a 6 inch display, dual core processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS and many more. It is to be noted that MTV Volt is the first 6 inch device launched in India with Karbonn A30 following it with a 5.9 inch display.

Specifications

Lets have a look at the specifications of Swipe MTV Volt below.

Dimensions & Weight: MTV Volt carries a dimension of 158.5 x 88.6 x 11.3 mm weighs in at 239 grams, making it extremely comfortable for handling.

Display: MTV Volt comes with a 6 inch 5 point multi-touch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels.

Processor: The handset is equipped with a 1GHz dual core MediaTek MTK 6577 processor for blazing performance.

Operating System: MTV Volt comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

Camera: The phablet has an 8MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front camera for video calling.

Storage: The handset packs 4GB internal storage, 512MB RAM and a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage.

Connectivity: MTV Volt has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, micro USB 2.0 and 3G.

Swipe MTV Volt: Potential Rivals

Samsung Galaxy Grand

Unveiled in December 2012, Samsung released the dual SIM version of the phablet in India at a special event held on January 22 at an affordable price tag of Rs 21,500.

When it comes to specs, Galaxy Grand packs a 5 inch multi-touch LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a very low resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, dual core 1.2GHz processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera for video calling, 8GB internal storage capacity, 1GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 64GB additional storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, HDMI, A-GPS, DLNA and a 2,100 mAh Li-ion battery, which will offer decent backup.

With a slightly better front camera, improved battery and lower price tag, the Swipe offering could be a stiff competitor to Galaxy Grand.

Micromax A116 Canvas HD

Micromax has made all heads turn towards it by launching a quad core Jelly Bean phablet - A116 Canvas HD housing a 5 inch HD IPS capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, 1.2GHz quad core MediaTek MT6589 processor, 8MP rear camera, VGA front camera for video calling, 4GB internal storage, 1GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth and GPS/A-GPS.

Further, Canvas HD is loaded with a 2,100 mAh battery and comes with dual SIM feature. Micromax A116 Canvas HD is loaded with applications including M!Store, M!Buddy, M!SMS, M!Zone and Hook Up.

The handset will be made available for February 14, 2013 for an estimated price tag of Rs 14,999. With a quad core processor and HD display, A116 Canvas HD could be a potential rival to the Swipe device.

Wickedleak Wammy Titan

Wickedleak launched a 5.5 inch phablet called Wammy Titan in India at a price of Rs 13,000. When it comes to other specs, the phablet sports a 5 point milti-touch Super qHD capacitive touchscreen display with 960 x 540 pixel resolution, 1.2GHz MTK6577 processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera for video calling, 4GB internal storage capacity, 1GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G and a 2,500 mAh battery offering 8 hours of talk time and 260 hours of stand by.

With a better camera, similar price tag and other specifications, Wammy Titan might be a challenger to Swipe MTV Volt.

Karbonn A30

Karbonn A30 phablet has a 5.9 inch LCD capacitive touchscreen display, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, 1GHz processor, 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera, dual sim support, Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, GPS and a 2,500 mAh battery.

Priced at Rs 10,990, Karbonn A30 with a 5.9 inch display and similar camera could be a rival to the Swipe offering, which comes with Jelly Bean OS and an improved battery.

Lava iris 501

Iris 501 sports a 5 inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, 1GHz dual core processor, Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, 5MP rear camera, 0.3MP front camera for video calling, 4GB internal storage, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB expandable storage support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, micro USB 2.0 and a 2,300 mAh Li-Po battery of undisclosed backup. The handset is priced reasonably at Rs 9,999 in the competitive phablet market.

With a lesser price tag, Lava Iris 501 might be a stiff competitor to Swipe MTV, however, the latter has a better camera, Jelly Bean OS and enhanced battery capacity.
