For the longest time the personal computer has been the lifeline for many, but now smartphones have officially replaced them. Smartphones have created an era of transformation, thanks to the growing user base of mobile users.

About 285 million smartphones were shipped in the first quarter of 2014, according to Strategy Analytics, and more than a billion will ship this year.

The year 2014 has proved massive for the so-called Chinese smartphone makers. Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus and Huawei, to name a few, have managed to kill well known big players in the industry. Xiaomi, for instance, has been unstoppable ever since it launched the Mi3 in India earlier in the year.

As usual, Apple ruled the smartphone market. The company introduced the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Both the devices have been rated among the few notable highlights of 2014.
