Finally, the highly anticipated Xiaomi Mi 4i is here and it will further intensify the competition in the sub-15k mobile segment.
While it borrows a lot of elements from its elder sibling - the Mi 4, the Mi 4i also offers some improvements such as Android 5.0 Lollipop, a larger battery, lighter body and so on.
As the device is set to hit store shelves on April 30, we decided to pit the Mi 4i with other devices in the similar price bracket.
Mi 4i and Honor 4X has good build quality:
Both smartphones featured here sport decent built quality with polycarbonate back and glass front, plus features a non removable battery.
The Honor 4X features a textured back while the Xiaomi Mi 4i sports a translucent finished rugged back cover.
Apart from that while testing both of them we have found them pretty ergonomic and easy to hold. Both smartphones feature rounded edges so that the phone becomes handy for carrying around in pockets or hand bags.
Honor 4X has a slightly bigger display than Mi 4i:
The Xiaomi Mi 4i is the only smartphone in the competition that offers a 5-inch 1080P display with a stunning Pixel per inch count of 441.
However, Mi 4i is also the costliest device among the two. Huawei Honor 4X features an identical 5.5-inch display with 1280x720 pixels resolution at 267ppi.
Xiaomi also packed the Sunlight Viewing technology into the Mi 4i, which tends to dynamically adjust the tones to get a balanced display in bright sunlight. The Honor 4X is missing out on this feature.
Mi 4i takes the prize here:
The Xiaomi Mi 4i houses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC (second generation) which has an octa core processor. You get a quad core Cortex A53 clocked at 1.7GHz and another quad core processor clocked at 1.1GHz. It has an Adreno 405 GPU. This is paired with 2GB LPDDR3 RAM.
Whereas the Honor 4X boasts a Snapdragon 410 SoC with 2GB RAM.
Xiaomi has an impressive operating system:
The Xiaomi Mi 4i runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Every phone features its own skin over the OS to give a distinct feel. While Mi 4i features the MIUI 6, Honor 4X runs on Emoticon 3.0 and Android Kitkat 4.4 OS.
Xiaomi Mi 4i Vs Honor 4X: Storage
Mi 4i offers 16GB onboard memory but, lacks in an essential Micro SD card slot. Honor 4X offers 8GB inbuilt memory with memory expandability up to 32GB using Micro SD card.
Honor 4X has a better camera:
In this segment, Xiaomi Mi 4i features a 13MP rear and 5MP front camera on paper. However, in our test we found the Honor 4X is the fastest among the rest with accurate and closest focusing capability.
The Xiaomi Mi 4i camera also offer decent quality images with good details and colour presence.
Mi 4i can last longer than Honor 4X:
Xiaomi packs a 3120 mAh battery in Mi 4i, while the Huawei Honor 4x features a 3,000 mAh battery.
The Honor 4X offers a great battery life and we believe Xiaomi Mi 4i will also provide similar amount of life in real life usage.
Here is our verdict:
The Mi 4i seems like a clear winner with its Full HD 5-inch display with pixel density that goes all the way up to 441 ppi.
Mi 4i is also lighter than the Honor 4X. It is powered by Snapdragon 615 aong with 2GB RAM, so it should be decent at multitasking.
Xiaomi's Mi 4i also steals the brownie points with a bigger 3120mAh battery that it plans to couple with battery optimising features. The company also promises quick charging.
Honor 4X is for those consumers who require a good looking device offering great camera and battery life with decent usability.
