Xiaomi is called the "Apple of China" for a reason. Not only does the company regularly come up with several smartphones at a small interval, but they are usually packed with a lot of features.
The next market, after China, currently in Xiaomi list is the one based in India. And rightfully so with a recent IDC report even claiming that the Indian smartphone market is rated highly among others in the Asia-Pacific region.
The company hosted a Delhi-based event in India today to reveal three of its new smartphones, alongside a solitary MiPad tablet. The other smartphones being the Xiaomi Mi 3, Redmi Note, and the one that we are focusing on: Xiaomi Redmi 1S.
Going through the specs of the Redmi 1S once more, the handset falls under the budget category and comes with dual standby. the smartphones features a 4.7-inch 720x1280 pixel IPS-LCD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection and a pixel density around 300ppi.
It runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with MIUI v5 slapped on top of it. However, there's no mention of an Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade for the handset.
The dual SIM Xiaomi Redmi 1S with dual standby, first announced for China in May, is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 SoC thats coupled with Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM.
Further, it has 8GB of built-in storage that is expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB). The Redmi 1S also features an 8-megapixel rear autofocus camera with flash, alongside a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
But keeping all the specs and stats at bay for the time being, what are the features of the new handset that could make it such a threat in the market? We take a look at the top 5.
The Xiaomi Redmi 1S comes fitted with a 1.6 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with Cortex-A7 core. This lets you get brilliant performance from your battery. Apart from that, there's the Adreno 305 image processor that will let you explore immersive 3D game environments.
The Redmi 1S offers 1280 x 720 display with 312 ppi that's meant to offer superfine text and crisp photos. There's also the In-plane switching (IPS) technology present that delivers immersive colors from almost any viewing angle.
The Redmi 1S comes with an extra large 1.4ųm sensor and a 5 plastic lens that will let you take photos with accurate, true-to-life colors even in low light. The Redmi 1S' ƒ/2.2 aperture and 28mm wide angle lens will also let you focus in on objects in the foreground while it will softly blur the rest of the photograph.
As you may know already, the Redmi 1S runs Jelly Bean that's been slapped with Xiaomi's MIUI interface. In fact, the features in MIUI are based on the feedback the company got from its existing set of customers. Add customizable fonts to it to make the experience even more special.
The Redmi 1S comes with Mi Sound Hi-Fi System with Dirac sound technologies. It features the same sound technology used by BMW, Bentley, and Rolls Royce. And that's quite special if you are planning to make full use of YouTube on the smartphone.
