Last month, Xiaomi announced its affordable Redmi 1S smartphone in India at the price of Rs. 5,999. At the launch event, it was made clear that the device would go on sale today, i.e. September 2nd via online retailer Flipkart.

Now the device has already been listed on the e-commerce site and would start selling most probably from 2PM onwards. What is pretty cool about the Redmi 1S is the fact that the company has made an array of customizable back panels which users can change according to their likes. However, you will have to buy it separately.

Xiaomi Redmi 1S: Key Specifications

The Redmi 1S sports a 4.7-inch 720p IPS LCD display with a layer of Dragontrail glass. It comes powered by a 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor coupled with 1GB RAM. The phone runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Xiaomi's MIUI layer on top.

Talking about the photography aspect of it, the smartphone features an 8MP rear shooter and a 1.6MP front facing camera as well. On the storage front, it uses 8GB of internal storage which can further be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card. It is a dual SIM smartphone with other connectivity options like 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth and USB support. It is fueled by a 2000mAh battery.

Xiaomi has been really pushing its business limits to the unimaginable heights, at least in India by offering the best smartphones with powerful hardware and software components in an affordable price. However, with several domestic smartphone manufacturers joining the competition in the affordable segment, Xiaomi might have to face a bit of a problem.
