Taking the general mentality toward China-made products out of Indian minds, a host of Chinese handset makers are currently present in India looking to make a sort of a name for themselves ahead of the likes of Samsung and Sony.

Xiaomi has been in news for quite some time now with reports talking about the potential release of the new and upcoming Xiaomi Mi 3 handset. However, that isn't the only device the company has behind its closed doors. Introducing the new Redmi 1S.

Apart from unveiling the other Redmi Note and Xiaomi Mi 3, the China-based smartphone maker has also introduced the budget priced handset for its potential Indian users. And needless to say, the device has arrived at a crucial juncture when the budget section of the market is on an all time high.

Going through the specs for the same once more, the new Xiaomi Redmi 1S features a 4.7-inch 720x1280 pixel IPS-LCD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection and a pixel density around 300ppi. It runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with MIUI v5 slapped on top of it. However, there's no mention of an Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade for the handset.

The dual SIM Xiaomi Redmi 1S with dual standby , first announced for China in May, is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 SoC thats coupled with Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM.

Further, it has 8GB of built-in storage that is expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB). The Redmi 1S also features an 8-megapixel rear autofocus camera with flash, alongside a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

Interestingly, Xiaomi has already listed the Redmi 1S and Redmi Note on its site at Rs. 6,999 and Rs. 9,999 respectively. However, a potential release date for the same is yet to be made official.
