At Mobile World Congress (MWC) this year, ZTE, one of the top five global handset manufacturers, launched two smartphones running on Firefox OS in the ZTE Open series - Open C and Open II.

ZTE Open C: First Firefox OS Phone Now Available in India for Rs 9,999

On the launch day, ZTE promised to ship over one million Firefox OS phones before the end of 2014. Looks like the manufacturer has started to work towards the same and has planned to set its foot in India first. Yes, if going by the recent reports, ZTE has started selling its Open C Firefox phones in India online. The handset is already available on e-commerce site eBay at a price of Rs. 9,999.

For those who are not aware, the Open C is one of the first devices to operate on the latest version of Firefox OS and is designed to deliver a better user experience and a higher cost-performance ratio. Let's take a look at the specifications.

ZTE Open C: Key Specifications

The ZTE Open C sports a decent 4-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display that supports 800 x 480 pixels resolution. The smartphone is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor coupled with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. It can run both the Firefox OS 1.3 and Android KitKat OS.

ZTE also comes with a microSD card slot, so users will be able to further expand storage up to 32GB by attaching a microSD memory card. There's also a 2-megapixel main camera on the back, which can also be used to capture low resolution videos. Connectivity-wise, the Open C offers both EDGE and 3G support, along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS and FM Radio.

The handset is powered by a 1,400 mAh removable battery, which should provide up to 150 hours of standby time or up to 6 hours of talk time.

Talking about the Firefox OS found in ZTE Open C, it is an open-source, Web-based operating system and offers a basic UI with features and apps including camera, dialer, SMS and games created using HTML5 technologies. Web apps are not resource intensive, so users can enjoy higher performance at a more affordable price. Also, the ZTE Open C supports bi-directional contact sync and linking as well as Firefox OS's adaptive apps search function which allows users to search for content faster by using the search box at the top of the main home screen.
