Logitech launches Mini Boombox speaker

Logitech has launched the Bluetooth Mini Boombox. It features a microphone as well as hands-free HFP profile support. You can pair Logitech Boombox with your tablet, laptop or smartphone, but there is even greater versatility in that you also use it for hands-free video chats and calls.

Music gadgets are becoming increasingly versatile. Now they are no longer stand alone, they need to work along with Smartphones, Laptops and Tablets. Logitech’s VP, Azmat Ali notes that Smartphones can now serve as game consoles, movie theatres, conference venues, concert venues, etc. The same can be said of laptops and tablets.

Sure enough, manufacturers have realized the need for great sound which is limited in laptops, Smartphones and tablets. And so the market became flooded with aftermarket fitments such as wired but portable speakers that, once connected to the USB ports of these devices, would offer great sound even fit for experiencing rock. The popular aftermarket devices are the wireless compact speakers which generally rely on Bluetooth connectivity.

But great sound is only one of the requirements demanded from their devices by consumers. Hands-free operation from their laptops or Smartphones is highly desirable too. Logitech seems to have conceived this and has launched yet another Bluetooth portable speaker but one that also enables hands-free smartphone usage.

Logitech has launched the Bluetooth Mini Boombox. It features a microphone as well as hands-free HFP profile support. You can pair Logitech Boombox with your tablet, laptop or smartphone, but there is even greater versatility in that you also use it for hands-free video chats and calls.

Logitech’s Mini Boombox is therefore a real multitasking expert. The company claims that, among the compatible devices that can be paired with Boombox, are iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone. It also supports the Bluetooth A2DP profile for wireless streaming. You can also connect devices that don’t support Bluetooth through a cord to a 3.5mm jack. To use it as a smartphone for hands-free calls you need 1.5 Bluetooth HFP profile support.

For the controls there is a touch panel on the top of the Mini Boombox with which you can adjust volume, make calls and select tracks. The backlit panel also indicates whether the Bluetooth connection is activated. The bass-enhanced sound is produced with the help of an acoustic chamber which Logitech claims it has specifically designed for this. It can be charged via a USB port. Logitech says the battery aboard Mini Boombox offers playback of up to 10 hours.

To be made available in November 2011 in Europe and US, Mini Boombox portable Bluetooth speaker is presently available for pre-order. All you need to do is head to the Logitech website. Available for a price amounting to around Rs. 5,000 to Rs 6,000 in India. It is relatively cheaper to Jawbone Jambox Bluetooth microphone-equipped portable speaker which is its direct rival.
