Back in 2012, Airtel announced the 4G LTE services in Kolkata that allowed its customers to use the service via dongles. But then making voice calls was not permitted. But now the company has finally added Kolkata to its 4G circles by offering the same 4G LTE services on mobile devices.
Airtel would thus also offer live demos in Airtel's company operated stores and also let users to upgrade to 4G SIMs. Airtel will also offer separate 4G packs for prepaid customers and Airtel myPlan which is a customizable plan for postpaid customers that has myBoosters with 4G benefits.
So far, Airtel offering the 4G services on mobile devices in Bengaluru, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula. In terms of packs, 4G prepaid plans start at Rs. 42 and a special pack of Rs. 999 for postpaid and Rs. 995 for prepaid would offer 10GB of 4G data.
Data browsing can be accessed on the 4G network, while voice calls will be routed on 2G by using the circuit switched fallback technology.

It should be noted that the only devices that support 4G LTE network are Apple iPhone 5S (models A1530 and A1518) and iPhone 5C (models A1529 and A1516). Thus owners of these phones can use the Airtle's latest 4G service by upgrading to a USIM (Universal SIM) or 4G SIM. The USIM comes free with the purchase of dongle or CPE and is priced at Rs 49 for mobile users. Other devices that will support the service are Xolo LT 900 and LG G2 (D802T).
Airtel would offer live demos in stores at Salt Lake City Center 1, Park Street, Golpark and Dr. UN Brahmachari Street in Kolkata.
