Apple unveiled the highly anticipated and much rumored sixth generation iPhone – iPhone 5 on Wednesday at a special media event alongside many other products including the iOS 6, its latest version of the mobile OS.
Apple iOS 6 is said to have over 200 new features including the Apple Maps, deeper Facebook and Twitter integration, improved Siri, iCloud cloud storage integration and more. The users of iOS based devices such as iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, new iPad, and iPod Touch can download the iOS 6 through an over-the-air update or from the iTunes store starting September 19.
However, it is not necessary that all the devices will get all the new features of the iOS 6 platform, the features are location specific. Apple has made it easier for the consumers to get to know which features will be available on their device by posting the official list of the international availability of five main features - Maps, Siri, iTunes Store, Dictation and App Store.
According to the list, the 3D Building feature of the Maps app is the most restricted aspect as it is available only in US. On the other hand, the standard mapping features are pretty broad.
When it comes to Siri – the voice assistant feature of Apple, most of its features are localized across Australia, Western Europe and North America while the advanced features such as restaurant reservations are supported only in Mexico, Canada and US. Even the Facebook and Twitter integration of Siri is restricted only to main markets in Asia, Europe, Australia and North America.
The official list posted by Apple shows that India will miss out a large number of the features but still the users of iOS products in the country will receive new features such as Standard, Satellite and Local Search in Maps and Games and Apps in App Store.
