Asus PadFone Launched in India: Is the Rs 64,999 Price Too Much for New Hybrid device?
Asus the Taiwanese tech giant unveiled the PadFone – a smartphone and tablet hybrid at the Mobile World Congress held in February alongside the Transformer Pad TF300T. Though these devices were released in several other countries, they did not step into the Indian market until now. Recently, there was a report that Asus will launch the devices in India in this week and apparently the manufacturer has released them into the market today.
The unique feature of the PadFone is that it comes with a tablet dock, which converts the 4 inch smartphone into a 10.1 inch tablet and a keyboard dock, which will double it as a netbook.
While, the Asus PadFone will be available in the market at a price tag of Rs. 64,999, Transformer Pad TF300T has been announced at a price of Rs 43,999 in India. But the big question, over here is Will the Indian consumer buy this three-in-one hybrid device at such a hefty cost, when all these gadgets are individually available in the Indian market at much wallet friendly price range. Well, for that, we will need to take a look at the impressive specifications of these newly released gadgets.
Asus PadFone Key Specs
The PadFone sports a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED capacitive multi-touch display with 960 x 540 pixel resolution. Running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, the PadFone houses a 1.5 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, 1.3MP front camera and a micro SD card slot for expandable memory support up to 32GB.
Further, the handset is loaded with a 1,520 mAh Li-ion battery delivering 63 hours of battery life with the PadFone station and 102 hours with the keyboard dock.
The PadFone comes in three configurations – 16GB, 32GB and 64GB respectively.
Other Features
On the connectivity front, the PadFone is packed with features like 3G HSUPA 5.76 Mbps, HSDPA 21 Mbps, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and aGPS. The smartphone - tablet hybrid has a keyboard dock, multi-touch pad, SD card reader, a USB port and a headset stylus, which can doubles as a headset and a stylus.
The unique and most interesting feature of the PadFone is that it has a tablet dock dubbed as PadFone Station, which has a 2MP rear camera and 6,600 mAh Li-ion battery to charge the device while it is docked.

The 32GB variant of Asus PadFone is priced at Rs 64,999.
