China will have cheaper and faster internet by 2015
China will increase the speed of internet by about 5 folds and also cut the cost of broadband by the year 2015 said the ministry of information technology. By 2015, the average bandwidth of broadband will be 20 Mbps in the urban areas which is almost 5 times than the current level. The same in the rural areas will account to about 4 Mbps.
This initiative was actually made after the country registered lot of complaints regarding the slow speed and the expensiveness of the broadband services. The broadband bandwidth of China is far behind the level in many other countries with highly expensive price. Miao Wei, the Minister of Industry and Information Technology claims that they are hoping to invest more in order to improve this issue by 2015.
Currently, the bandwidth of broadband in China is at rank 71 when compared with the other countries. The average bandwidth in United States is 20 to 25 Mbps now and this is almost five times that in China. When speaking about the cost, in China, 1 Mbps costs about $13 on an average and this is four times than that in US and about 400 times than that in Hong Kong.
The Reform Commission and National Development in November started a probe about the China Unicom and Telecom after there were suspicions of them preventing the rest from entering into the market and also about keeping the broadband services' prices too high. They later assured to cut down the rates of broadband and lift the speed in the next few years.
