Instagram, the infamous app for sharing photos through social media announced recently that they now have 300 million users. The app which was bought over by Mark Zuckeberg's social networking site Facebook a while ago also announced a new system to authenticate celebrity members.
This means that for the first time in history Instagram has exceeded the number of followers on Twitter. Yes! It was only recently when Twitter announced towards the end of September 2014 that they have crossed 284 million active users.
The chief executive of Instagram, Kevin Systrom reportedly said, "Over the past four years, what began as two friends with a dream has grown into a global community that shares more than 70 million photos and videos each day."
The main point of Instagram is to share photos or videos taken with your phone, at the same time there are also lots of filters and effects that can be added to enhance the pictures. Friends and followers can be tagged and the photos can also be geotagged.

Instagram was acquired by Facebook in 2012. The original value was placed at 1 billion dollars but the final value was less because of a drop in Facebook's share price.
The eMarketer research firms employee Debra Aho Williamson said that Instagram has a good deal of potential for advertising with an estimated 52.5 million monthly users in the US alone.
She also went on to saying that,"With 300 million monthly users, Instagram's audience is becoming very attractive to marketers, especially brand advertisers, and its rapid growth will only make it more appealing."
The ad business in Instagram is still very new with lots of areas to grow. But now with the new authentication of pages real marketing can take place and people can be assured that the pages they follow are Real and not Fake.
