MediaTek Inc, popular semiconductor manufacturer for Wireless communications and digital multimedia solutions has announced a new comprehensive suite of 3D solutions for smartphone platforms. The suite dubbed as ‘Cool 3D’ will work on its MT6575 single core and MT6577 dual core platforms. This announcement came as a breather for consumers looking for enhanced 3D capabilities in smartphones. 

According to a report from Global Industry Analysts Inc, the global market for 3D enabled smartphones is expected to touch over 994 million unit sales by 2018.This huge growth will be promoted by extensive availability of 3D content such as movies, games etc. 

Cool 3D suite for smartphone platforms include support for stereo 3D cameras, real time 2D to 3D conversion and 3D UIs. The 3D user interface is designed to deliver impressive 3D experience to consumers. Two notable features incorporated in the suite include ‘3D Cool Shot’ and ‘3D Cool Show’. 3D Cool Shot solution include support for a 5 Megapixel dual lens camera which allows recording at 1080p at 24 frames per second and capturing of 3D images. 

3D Cool Show on the other hand improves the stereo effect with anti-fatigue capabilities also facilitating real time transformation between 2D and 3D modes. The smartphone platforms from MediaTek are the first in the industry to avail the functionality of dual lens bridge devices which dramatically reduces the system cost and saves precious space in the board. MediaTek has informed that all future products from the company will feature 3D capabilities.
