With the news about the launch of the next iPhone and the Galaxy Note 2, the earlier flagship products of the two companies – Apple and Samsung have not been in talks for sometime. Hence, this news will a different one as it speaks about the Galaxy S3 and iPhone 4S.
The sales of the Samsung Galaxy S3, which was launched in May has surpassed that of iPhone 4S in August 2012, making the former the top selling smartphone in US. The main reason for this is the slowdown in the sales of iPhone 4S as the Apple fanboys out there are eagerly waiting for the upcoming iPhone 5, which is to be launched in a few weeks.
According to an AppleInsider report, Canaccord analyst T. Micheal Walkley claims that Galaxy S3 was the top selling smartphone at three US carriers – T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and Sprint, followed by iPhone 4S, HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S2 and Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. However, iPhone 4S was able to top Galaxy S3 in the AT&T network alone.
He wrote that "We believe this is the first month since the iPhone 4S launched in October 2011 that it was not the top selling smartphone in the U.S. Market. However, our checks indicated strong consumer interest and likely demand for the iPhone 5, and we believe Apple will return to strong number one smartphone share in the U.S. post the iPhone 5 launch.”
Galaxy S3 sports a 4.8 inch capacitive touchscreen display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, quad core 1.4GHz Cortex A9 processor, 8MP rear camera, 1.9MP front camera and runs on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. However, the handset will be receiving the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade soon.
When it comes to iPhone 4S, the handset houses a 3.5 inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display with 640 x 960 pixel resolution, dual core 1GHz Cortex A9 processor, 8MP rear camera, VGA front camera and iOS 5.1.
