Less than a couple of weeks ago, a set of leaked slides have revealed that Sony is planning to release an Android tablet under Xperia brand. However, on August 9, again, a few press shots of the first Sony Xperia Tablet surfaced online showing off the thinner body and the unique wedge design of the device.
While, recently, Acer CEO, Oliver Ahrens had criticized Microsoft Surface tablets by saying, “I don't think it will be successful because you cannot be a hardware player with two products”. Other OEMs seem to have emerged with their own tablets to rival the Microsoft Surface tablet design and slim keyboard.
Relatively, Sony is prepping an Android tablet, which is thinner and lighter than its Tablet S.
It was in July only, when xda-developers forum revealed a set of leaked images of the new Sony Xperia tablet. Now, the same forum post has updated better quality images of the tablet, showing its front, back and side views.
Similar to the Sony Tablet S, the new device – to be named Xperia Tablet – features a curved design. The front appears to sport a thick bezel around the screen while the back is dominated by a black perforated black bar carrying the Xperia logo.
What Features to Expect?
Earlier reports suggest that the Sony Xperia Tablet will run on Android 4.0 or later versions of ICS. The Jelly Bean update will be rolled out soon after the launch. Xperia Tablet will sport a 9.4 inch display bearing a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The tablet will be powered by a quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and a 6000 mAh battery. The tablet will pack features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, micro SD card slot and GPS.
Price and Release Date
On the pricing front, numerous reports are coming in suggesting different price tags for the Xperia Tablet. As per the report from xda-developers forum, the 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB variants of the Android tablet are expected to cost $399.99, $499.99 and $599.99 respectively.
However, reports from Verge claim that the three variants of Xperia tablet will cost $449.99, $549.99 and $649.99. Also, a Surface styled keyboard cover costing $99.9 will be available.
As of now, there is no information about the availability of the device. However, numerous reports are claiming that Sony’s first ever Xperia tablet is expected to be unveiled at pre-IFA event on August 29 in Berlin and may hit the stores sometime in September.
