Twitter crashes on New Year

Due to lots of New Year messages, Twitter was crashed on the first day of the year. The popular micro-blogging site has crashed in Britain at 3 PM and it was out for about an hour or so. It actually coincided with the midnight celebrations in Japan when the revelers were sending over 16,197 tweets every second.

This overload of tweets made a situation where no one were able to post new messages or read the existing tweets. The frustrated users of Twitter were greeted with message “Twitter is over capacity.” The site was soon returned to the working condition but it stopped frequently on several occasions and it prompted the speculation that it is used by several people across the world on New Year.

This speculation has made the users to crack jokes out of frustration. One of the users tweeted that the three amazing words “Twitter over capacity” has ruined his new year and another user has tweeted that the New Year resolution of Twitter has to be that it should not run over capacity.

A Twitter spokeswoman, Carlyn Penner said that some users experienced trouble while they were connecting on the early morning of Sunday. However, there was no clarifications from her on why this happened.

On the other hand, Facebook, the most popular social networking website claimed that it is all set to face the New Year traffic and it expects about one billion uploads including the sharing of comments and photos. Facebook has included both the smartphone as well as laptop traffic as a part of the New Year celebrations.
