Exactly 8 years ago, a group of employees of PayPal embarked upon a project which would forever change the video watching and sharing. YouTube on 19th celebrated it's 8th years of being in existence.
In 2005, on this very day, YouTube beta was made available and was official launched in November 2005. Since then the site sky rocketed with 65,000 new videos being uploaded every day around July of 2006. The site was receiving 100 million video views per day. Google were quick recognize the potential of the video-sharing site, In October 2006, the search giant announced that it had acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion in Google stock. Today, more than 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute and more then 1 billion people come to YouTube to satisfy their video watching needs.

Youtube was started by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim, employees of PayPal were discussing about the limitations of video sharing at a dinner party and thus the idea of YouTube was borne.

Youtube was originally intended to be a video dating site and was to be called as Tune In Hook Up.

However, claim was dismissed. Universal Tube has since changed the name of its website to www.utubeonline.com.
