Apart from updates to its Hangouts app, Google has now also announced a host of new photo and video features to its Plus networking service. Even though the company announced 18 new features for Google +, the Auto Awesome Movie feature was the highlight of the event.

The tool makes highlight reels of user's videos and images shot during a single occasion. Apart from simply clubbing them together, it also add music, filters and enhances each shot before creating a movie that you can share on the social network.

Vic Gundotra, head of Google+, said that the tool can create Auto Awesome Movie on its own and send you a notification when the movie is complete. Apart form this, you can also ask the social network to make one for you by selecting images and videos clips that you want to include.

Apart from Auto Awesome Movie, several other features announced.

Iphone users can now back up their images in quality with the upcoming Google + app. Apart from this, the iPhone app will also be able to back up pictures automatically.

Google's photo editing app, Snapseed, will use new photo filters that will dramatically improve the quality of certain pictures. While the feature wont fix all kinds of pictures, it will be able to make significant improvements on images of landscapes and structures. It won't be able to do much with images of people faces.

Other features include location sharing with the tap of an icon, support for animated GIFs and text message integration into the app. A host of broadcast hangout tools have been added, including the ability to lower a specific user's volume.

Apart from this, video calls will now be in HD video with Auto Awesome effects added to them. So let's say that you're doing a video chat in a badly lit room, Google's Auto Awesome effects will step in make things better.

Google also went on to boast that its has social network has more than 300 million monthly active users at the moment.
