WeChat Reaches 549 Million Users Globally

Mobile texting and voice messaging app, WeChat has recently announced that it has reached 549 million monthly active users (MAUs) globally. This is a significant jump compared to the 500 million user milestone achieved three months ago in Q4 2014.

As per GWI's study, in India there has been a 113% increase in the number of people utilizing mobile messaging tools since 2013 wherein 79% of the online population own a smartphone.

The study further quotes that in November 2014, the active user base in India has grown by 2364% from Q1 2013 to Q3 2014 and is expected to continue expanding in future as WeChat introduces more exciting new app features that enhance its subscribers' mobile experiences.

He added that India is a key market for WeChat and the mobile social communication app aims to take social interaction to a deeper level not just for the users, but also a platform for the brands to interact with theirs consumers through the innovative features.

WeChat is a mobile text and voice messaging communication app launched in January 2011. This app is available on Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Phone and Symbian phones.
