Whatsapp messenger, a cross platform messaging app, which allows user to send messages, now added the latest feature of voice calling. This feature has started rolling out for some of the Android devices already. Reddit user pradnesh07 has shared some of the screen shot of the latest Whatsapp calling option. He has come across this feature by receiving a Whatsapp call from his friend. It follows a invite like feature, where to enable this feature, you have to get called by someone who already has it enabled.
On the shared images, the app's bar at the top features three primary tabs, one for text-based chats, one for contacts, and a new one for calls. Another screenshot shows the instructions for how to do a new voice call in the app.
This newly launched feature will be accessible only with 2.11.508 version of WhatsApp. According to pradnesh07, the users might have to grab this APK file from the Whatsapp official website until it gets on the Google Play Store. Last year Whatsapp has announced its plan on rolling out the voice calling feature, and in last December, few screen shots has been leaked.
As per WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum, the delay in rolling out voice calling feature was due to technical hurdles that developers were facing. He also added, that the service had been delayed till Q1 2015. With the voice calling feature, it is likely to clash with other apps such as Viber, Line, WeChat. This cross-platform messaging app, has reached 700 million active users in January2015.
