Acer Iconia B To Hit Retail Shelves in India at Rs 7,999: A Low Cost Rival to Nexus 7? [Pictures]
An unannounced Acer tablet has been in the tech headlines since the December 2012. It seems like the media reports claiming that the tablet will be launched in India in January is true as Acer seems to be planning for it.
Acer India website lists the Iconia B tablet showing its features. Moreover, the tablet is speculated to hit the retail shelves in India by the end of January with a wallet friendly price tag of Rs 7,999. Also, the ongoing rumors claim that the tablet will be based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.
The Iconia B was also spotted briefly on Acer's official web site, but its page has been taken down and only a copy of it exists via Google Cache.
Earlier reports suggest that Ioconia B will sport a 7 inch display with 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, 1.2GHz dual-core MediaTek processor, just 512MB of RAM, 8GB internal memory, and microSD card support.
Going by earlier reports, a Wall Street Journal report in December claimed that Acer will soon launch Iconia B1 tablet running on Android platform for just $99.
Competition with Nexus 7
As far as the Indian market is concerned, there are very few 7 inch Jelly Bean tablets that come at low cost. When it comes to the first device of that category - Nexus 7, the tablet arrived late to India, though it has been released in the other countries pretty earlier.
Speaking of the specifications, Google Nexus 7 sports a 7 inch 10 point multi-touch IPS display with 1280 x 800 resolution, quad core 1.2GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS (upgradeable to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean), 1GB RAM, 16GB/32GB internal storage, 1.2MP front camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, 4,325 mAh battery and NFC connectivity.
Specwise, it seems like Nexus 7 could be a better option with as it is upgraded with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and hence, it has features including Miracast, PhotoSphere, DayDream, Gesture Typing and more. Also, the tablet comes with NFC connectivity for easy mobile payment and more features.
However, as the Indian consumers are highly price conscious, Iconia B with almost similar specs and with a lesser price tag of Rs 7,999 could definitely set fire on the tablet battlefield for Nexus 7.
