Apple Reportedly Planning to Discontinue iPad 2?
The end is coming: iPad 2 might get killed by Apple in months to come. The 9.7-inch iPad is expected to be discontinued in the near future, said an AppleInsider report on Thursday.
It's been nearly 3 long years, and Apple still continues to sell the second-generation iPad 2 in market. Now it seems that the Cupertino-based tech is in no mood to show its support to ageing Apple iPad 2.
AppleInsider citing " people familiar with Apple's plans ", the company has decided to stop producing the slate, as customers find iPad Air and iPad Mini Retina display more attractive.
In November 2013, KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had predicted that Apple may end the iPad 2 in the first quarter of 2014.

It is often seen that Apple keeps it old devices around after the device hits shelves. When the third and fourth-generation iPads were announced, it made complete sense to sell the device at a slightly lower price.
However, with the coming of Apple's new age iPad Mini Retina, which is being offer at a same price point (though, not in India), it does not make sense at all to continue selling the iPad 2 at a premium.
Well, in case of India, Apple iPad 2 does hold a great value, since the latest iPad Air (16GB, Wi-Fi only) retails at a much higher price (approximately Rs. 35,000). The 16GB iPad 2 retails for Rs. 25,000 in Indian market.
Moreover, the iPad Mini Retina Display (16GB, Wi-Fi only) has been priced at a much premium for Indian consumers (Rs. 27,455). So, the best option for consumers is to either get an iPad 2 at Rs. 24,000 or get a cheaper first-generation iPad Mini for Rs. 20,000 ( online price).
We believe that the iPad 2 is still a great buy, until unless you crave for Retina Display ducked iPad Air. Meanwhile, many e-retailers in India are still selling the fourth-generation iPad 4 at much lower prices. The 16GB iPad 4 (Wi-Fi plus 3G) come at a price of Rs. 30,000, which is again a great deal. Since Apple has already discontinued making the fourth-generation iPad 4---how come Indian e-retailers have fresh stocks at their warehouses. May be they must be having old stocks piled up, and by selling it an discounted price could be the last option in front of them.
Apple iPad 2 has been company's bestselling tablet device till date. The device has had the longest possible run at retail shelves worldwide. The tablet comes with a 9.7-inch display having a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels at 132ppi. Under the hood, you will notice a dual-core A5 processor. The tablet features two-dual cameras as well. For your information, Apple iPad 2 runs latest iOS 7 mobile OS.
