Asus At IFA 2013: 6 New Android Devices Announced, FonePads, MemoPads and Transformer Book Trios

Asus has surprised the fans by unveiling their latest line up of Android devices just a couple of hours ago. Like Sony and Samsung made a jaw dropping announcements with their most awaited devices, Asus also unveiled their 6 devices viz. New Transformer Book Trio and Transformer Pad TF701T, Fonepad 6 and 7 and Memo Pad 8 and 10 in an impressive manner. In fact, all these devices are an upgraded and improved continuation to their already existing series of Transformer, Fonepad and MeMo Pad.

Lets have a brief look at the specs of the latest Asus devices individually:

Asus Memo Pad 8 and 10

Asus Memo Pad 8 and 10 is actually meant to be an affordable device and both come with almost similar specs. In fact, both devices come with IPS display offering a resolution of 1280 x 800pixels with a difference in the size as the name suggests (8 and 10.1-inches). There is an unknown 1.6GHz quad-core processor coupled with 1GB RAM powering the devices. One can find a 1.2MP front-facing camera, up to 16GB of storage with SD expansion in both the devices. The only difference one can find in the two devices is that the Memo Pad 8 comes with a better 5MP rear camera compared to 2MP on the Memo Pad 10. the larger 10 inch model also comes with a more powerful 5070mAh battery compared to 3950mAh that powers the Memo Pad 8. Both devices will be available in White, Grey and Pink color variants.

Fonepad 7

Asus also revealed two new Fonepad devices namely, Fonepad 6 and Fonepad 7 with 6 and 7 inch display respectively that feature complete cellular radios inside.
The Fonepad 7 is a budget-friendly device and comes with a 1280 x 800 IPS display. Obviously the tablet runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system. It is powered by a 1.6 GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor with 400MHz PowerVR SGX544 GPU coupled with 1GB RAM. One can find up to 32GB of storage capacity with SD expansion, a 5MP rear camera and a 1.2MP front-facing camera as well. As for the cellular bands, GSM is supported. Connectivity features include 3G WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS.

Fonepad 6

Fonepad 6 is a bit high end device that boasts a feature-enhanced stylus. The Fonepad 6 comes packed with 6-inch full HD Super IPS+ display and runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2. To talk about power, 2.0GHz Intel Atom Z2580 dual-core processor comes coupled with 2GB RAM. In the camera section, it has 8MP rear camera and a 1.2 megapixel front-facing snapper. Connectivity options include 3G, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, E-Compass. The device is powered by a 3200 mAh battery.

Transformer Book Trio

The Transformer Book Trio comes with a dual-boots viz. Windows 8 and Android Jelly Bean 4.2 with full HD 11.6-inch display. When docked the device runs on Windows 8 OS and when used as a tablet the device starts running on Android platform. When running Windows 8, the Transformer Book Trio can use 4GB DDR3 RAM, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and up to a latest generation Intel Core i7. But when used as a tablet running Android, it can only use 2GB RAM, 802.11n WiFi, BlueTooth 3.0 and 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2760. Irrespective of whether the device is docked or undocked, it can utilize stereo speakers, 5MP rear camera and 720p VGA front-facing snapper.

Transformer Pad TF701T

On the other hand, the Transformer Pad TF701T sports a 10.1-inch IPS display offering a resolution of 2560 x 1600pixel. The device runs on Android 4.2 JellyBean platform with NVIDIA Tegra 4 quad-core processor coupled with 2GB RAM. There is up to 64GB of storage with SD expansion, a 5MP F/2.4 rear camera and 1.2MP front-facing camera as well. The TF701T comes with a full-featured keyboard dock that provides an additional battery to the tablet offering 13 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Conclusion

Asus has been improving their FonPad for a long time and most of their devices especially tablets have been considered to be very efficient when price has to be taken into account. Looking at the new devices, Asus has increased the efficiency of the devices aggressively, last time upgraded Fonepad made an impressive impact on the fans and with these latest devices Asus will surely soar in the tabnlet market with ease. However, competition remains tough as always. Also Asus has not announced the prices of the devices as of now and the availability still remains unknown but speculations are that these devices would be available by the end of this year.
