Dell has decided to step it up in the Windows 8 tablet war with its new offering - Latitude 10 tablet. Recently, at MWC 2013, the Texas based company introduced an upgraded version of it's 10 inch tablet , positioned as business ready accompanied with enhanced security configuration. Dell claimed that Latitude 10 comes with enhanced features and security measures, which is said to be aimed at highly regulated industries like the government bodies, financial institutions and healthcare organizations, amongst others.
"While tablets can improve access to patient information for clinicians at the point of care, healthcare IT decision-makers should be informed about potential side-effects," said Andrew, Litt, M.D., Dell's Chief Medical Officer.
The tablet runs on Windows 8 and sports a 10.1-inch 1366 x 768 resolution display, 1.8 GHz dual core Intel Atom Z2760 processor, 2 GB RAM, 8 megapixel rear camera & 2 megapixel front camera, a full-size USB port and a SD memory card reader, docking connector, 128 GB storage space, a mini-HDMI port, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 30 Wh Lithium Ion battery. Also, Tablet has a magnesium alloy frame and Gorila glass for enhanced durability.
The Latitude 10 fits easily and securely into existing IT environments to help improve IT efficiency and decrease total cost-of-ownership. Because it is managed like any standard Windows-based laptop, the Latitude 10 is significantly easier to deploy and manage than the Apple iPad in large scale enterprise implementations, said Dell in a press release.
Further, the Windows 8 powered tablet will come integrated with a security management suite, with features including a smart card and fingerprint reader, Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2, to check integrity of devices, BitLocker Drive Encryption, Computrace Support and a Noble Lock Slot.
"In our testing and analysis we found substantial advantages in managing the Dell Latitude 10 over an Apple iPad in an enterprise SCCM environment," said Bill Catchings, co-founder of Principled Technologies.
"Our analysis found that these advantages would translate to significant cost savings, especially when managing large numbers of these devices." he added.
The Dell Latitude 10 Enhanced Security is available at 779$ USD ( Rs. 41,960 approximately).
