Smartphones might be the biggest thing in the market, but tablets aren't far away from attaining a similar kind of status. In India, most of the craze is generated via smartphones with smaller screens and extended features. Tablets, on the other hand, are yet to catch on.
As far as mainstream tablets are concerned, it has to be said that Apple holds a special place in the market. With its iOS-based iPad offerings, it has to be said that Apple has indeed made a special place for itself. However, Android offerings aren't far away as well.
Now, trying to keep up with the still growing tablet market, Flipkart recently announced the launch of its first tablet - Digiflip Pro XT 712. And although there is already a boatload of budget tablets from a number of native manufacturers, the new one from Flipkart is believed to be the first tablet from any Indian e-commerce company.
Talking about new Digiflip Pro XT712, it is the company's brand new affordable 7-inch Android tablet. Moreover, the online retailer also claims to offer much more than what other brands offer in the sub-Rs 10,000 price segment.
On top of that, the company also says that the Digiflip Pro XT712 offers an improved metallic build quality, specifications and more features than anyone else.
Recenty, we spent some time with the new tablet to see what it's actually capable of, and if it stands tall to the specs for it on the paper. Needless to say, we found out quite a bit about the device. Here's our review for the Digiflip Pro XT712.
Flipkart Digiflip Pro XT 712 Review: Form Factor and Operating System
Going by the amount of time we spent with the new Digiflip tablet, it has to be said that a lot more was needed to be done on the overall build of the device. The device features a 7-inch display with 1280 x 800 HD resolution and 216 pixels per inch, with somewhat okay color reproduction.
In terms of looks, we have to say that the tablet isn't really any different from the other offerings in the market. In fact, the tablet's design does not even sport a single distinctive feature that can make it stand out in a crowd.
But if you can leave out the looks segment of it out of the equation for the moment, you will see that ergonomically, the tablet has been decently built. It's not that heavy and can be easily carried around in the hand, as it s quite comfortable.
On an overall, the Digiflip Pro XT 712 is much nicer to hold than some of the other cheap glossy tablets currently available in the market, thanks to its metal build. The device itself measures 9.2mm in terms of thickness and weighs in at less than 300 grams.
Apart from that, with all its metal build and everything, somehow the Digiflip Pro logo at the centre of back panel isn't really pleasing to the eye. Nothing personal, but it might look a bit strange to some. Of course, perspectives always matter.
The device's back panel isn't removable. However, there is a thin strip of plastic stretching across the top of the back panel that you can take off. Once removed, you will find that slots have been made for a microSD card that supports a card of up to 32GB for additional storage, with two additional SIM card slots.
As far as the OS is concerned, the tablet runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box. so you might as well could wave any sort of customization options goodbye. It essentially runs on stock Android, although it doesn't bring along with itself all the bloatware apps that are responsible for eating up your storage space. However, there are a few pre-installed Flipkart apps in the device that you cannot remove.
