After months of wait, the consumers in India received the Nexus 7 tablet via the Play Store and so soon the rumors regarding its successor have started surfacing online.
According to a Reuters report, Google will launch the second generation Nexus 7 tablet in July and it will run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip instead of a Nvidia Tegra chipset, which was present in the predecessor. Of course, Asus will be handling the manufacturing of the next generation Nexus 7 tablet.
Google has allegedly picked the Qualcomm Snapdragon chip over the Nvidia one because of its power efficiency.
Furthermore, the report also reveals that besides the chip change, the next version of the Nexus 7 will reportedly come with an improved display, presumably with full HD resolution and a thinner bezel design. As of now, there is no information on whether the new model will come with a rear-facing camera, which was a downside for its predecessor.
The report also claimed that the Mountain View company is reportedly targeting sales of between six and eight million units for 2H13 up from 4.6 million units of Nexus 7 sold in the same period in 2012. It is possible the refreshed tablet will be unveiled during Google I/O developer event in San Francisco in May.
As per several media reports, Google might price the second generation Nexus 7 tablet at $199 and the first-gen model might witness a price cut to $149. There is also the possibility that Google will become even more aggressive and sell the new Nexus 7 for $149 and discontinue the first-gen tablet immediately after the launch of its successor.
According to reports, iPad Mini 2 will feature a screen with a resolution of 2048 x 1536, which is almost four times the resolution of the present iPad Mini and similar to the fourth generation iPad. Other specs include a more powerful dual core A7 processor, a 7.9 inch screen, FaceTime HD camera, iSight camera with 1080 pixels HD video recording and a battery offering 10 hours backup.
Hence, Nexus 7 successor could be a rival to the iPad Mini 2 speculated to come in 3Q13 and Apple will definitely have to incorporate a better quality display as compared to the opponent to succeed in the small tablet race.
