The Cupertino-based Apple is no more enjoying steady sales as far as its iPad Mini are concerned. The Apple iPad Mini has shown momentum despite being tagged as a non-starter by critics. Still, the tech giant is selling the device like hot cakes. But slowly and gradually, the company is facing heat due to the glorification of cheap Android tablets.
A report by DigiTimes claims that the iPad Mini is not selling well, as per the expectations. The buzz is that AU Optronics (AUO), the lead manufacturer who makes display panels to used in the iPad Mini, are excepting to ship just over 2.5 million display units. Last quarter, the same manufacturer had shipped around 4 million panels for the iPad Mini.
AUO's drop in the second quarter will also come as overall shipments for the iPad mini are expected to drop around 20-30% on quarter to around 10 million units largely due to the time period traditionally being a slow purchasing period for consumers. The remaining seven million panels for the device are expected to come from LG Display, said the sources
Based on rumors, it is believed that Apple won't continue its partnership with AUO instead it could collaborate with LG Display and Sharp. If this is the reality then the high-quality panels would be either made by either LG or Sharp. The South Korean fairly understands the technology behind Retina Display , while Sharp has been asked to provide IGZO displays for the next-gen iPhone.
Apple iPad Mini, a 7.9-inch tablet device, was announced back in 2012. It's success was not guaranteed. But braving all sorts of criticism , the company somehow able to achieved its target. Being priced at Rs.21,900 , it is selling quite well. The spike in sales of Android based tablets are the sole reason why Apple is getting restless these days. It is not when Apple would announce next-gen iPad Mini and the iPad 5. Stay tuned to GizBot.
