Karbonn Smart Tab 10 Cosmic vs Google Nexus 10: Big Android Jelly Bean Tablet Fight
According to a recent market research, tablets running on Google's Android operating system account for over four in every ten devices shipped to consumers. Strategy Analytics group claims that Android market share has increased from 29.1% market share in Q3 2011 to 41.3% in the same period 2012.
The main reason for the increase in the Android tablet market share is due to the launch of Google Nexus 7, Amazon Kindle Fire and a slew of other products by different manufacturers across the globe.
Moreover, adding to this Google has launched the Samsung made Nexus 10 in October and hence, Android market share could face more uphills in Q4 as well.
With the launch of Android Jelly Bean in Nexus 7, the local vendors in India have also come up with tablets based on the OS. Going on the same lines, Karbonn has recently come up with a Jelly Bean based 10 inch tablet at Rs 10,280.
As the Nexus 10, which was released into the other markets across the globe in mid-November is still awaiting its Indian release, it is a welcome for the Karbonn offering.
Hence, Gizbot has come up with a comparison between Karbonn Smart Tab 10 Cosmic and Google Nexus 10. Read it below.
Dimensions & Weight: While the dimensions and weight of Smart Tab 10 remains undisclosed, Nexus 10 boasts a 263.8 x 177.8 x 8.9 mm and weighs around 603 grams.
Display: When it comes to display, Smart Tab 10 Cosmic features 9.7 inch capacitive touchscreen display with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, on the other hand, Nexus 10 houses a 10.1 inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels.
Processor: In this segment, Smart Tab 10 is equipped with a 1.5GHz dual core processor, whereas, Nexus 10 packs a powerful 1.7GHz Cortex A15 dual-core processor.
OS: Speaking of OS, Smart Tab 10 is based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system and Nexus 10 is based on its incremental version, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Hence, Nexus 10 will have advanced features including Gesture typing - predictive typing, Photo Sphere - to create panoramic shots, support for wireless displays, multi-user support on tablets, Daydream - to display useful information, improved Google Now and lock screen UI improvements.
Storage: On the storage front, there is no information regarding the internal memory capacity of Karbonn offering, which comes with 1GB RAM and a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage.
In comparison, Nexus 10 comes in two variants - 16GB/32GB internal storage accompanied with 2GB RAM, however, it lacks a micro SD card slot for expandable memory support.
Camera: In terms of camera optics, Smart Tab 10 Cosmic has a 2MP rear camera and a VGA front camera for video calling, on the other hand, Nexus 10 comes with 5MP rear camera rear camera and a 1.9MP front camera.
Connectivity: When it comes to data connectivity, Smart Tab 10 has features including Wi-Fi, USB port, HDMI port and 3G via dongle, whereas, Nexus 10 supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, micro USB port, micro HDMI, NFC and GPS+Glonass.
Battery: Speaking of power management, the Karbonn offering is loaded with a 6,000 mAh battery of undisclosed backup and Nexus 4 is powered with a 9,000 mAh Li-ion battery offering up to 9 hours video playback and 500 hours standby.
Price: On the pricing front, both Smart Tab 10 Cosmic and Nexus 10 are available on pre-order for Rs 10,280 and Rs 31,000 respectively.
Verdict
Both the devices are yet to be official released into the Indian market and hence, they are available on pre-order for the price tags mentioned above. However, this price could vary depending on the sellers and hence, to know the final price tag, they have to be launched officially by the companies.
If the concern is on a relatively lower price tag with expandable storage support, Smart Tab 10 could be the right choice.
However, if the concern is on a faster and better processor, improved camera performance, increased internal storage options, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity features, Nexus 10 should be a better option.
