The trend of voice calling tablets started with the launch of Galaxy Tab 2 310 in 2012 by Samsung, after which several companies started coming up with tabs in this category to capture the growing market share.

 

Further, in 2012, Micromax, India based tech vendor emerged as tablet market leader in the country surpassing Apple and Samsung. The latest is that Micromax has now added another jewel to its chest of Funbook tablet lineup with the launch of Funbook Talk P360 online at a price of Rs 7,049.

 

After Micromax proved that the India based vendors can actually create an impact in the world market, several vendors stepped into join the list. One such company, which is aiming to launch tablets constantly in order to compete with Micromax is Lava. In March 2013, the company announced the launch of Android ICS based E-Tab Connect- a 3G voice calling tablet at Rs 9,499, but the tablet is available on Flipkart at a discounted price of Rs 8,499.

Taking into consideration that Micromax dominates the budget tablet market in the nation, its Android ICS tablet - Funbook 3G P360 at Rs 7,049 with almost similar specifications could be a stiff competitor to the Lava offering. Hence, the new Lava tab and the Micromax offering will have to win the minds of the consumers for sure.

Since everyone wants to own a budget tablet with voice calling facility, the chances are high that many would be confused on which one to buy. Form Factor: E-Tab Connect carries a dimension of 194 x 122.6 x 10 mm and weighs in at 350 grams, while the Funbook Talk P360 comes with a slightly thicker profile measuring 192 x 122 x 10.5 mm and weighing in at 370 grams.

When it comes to display, both the tablets score the same with a 7 inch multi-touch capacitive touchscreen display boasting 480 x 800 pixel resolution.

Processor: In this segment, E-Tab Connect is equipped with a 1.2GHz Qualcomm MSM7227A processor, whereas, Funbook Talk P360 is powered by a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor. Operating System: Again, in terms of operating system, both E-Tab Connect and Funbook Talk P360 fare well with Android 4.0 ICS operating system.

Camera: In terms of camera optics, both the tablets have a 2MP rear camera and a VGA front camera for video calling.

Storage: When it comes to storage, E-Tab Connect and Funbook Talk P360 have 4GB internal storage, which can be expanded up to 32GB via a micro SD card slot. Apart from this, the Micromax tablet has 1GB RAM, which is better as compared to the 512MB RAM in the Lava offering.

Connectivity: Talking of internet connectivity, both E-Tab Connect and Funbook Talk P360 have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and micro USB 2.0. Again, the Micromax offering comes with the presence of an HDMI port, but, it supports 3G via dongle, while E-Tab Connect has a 3G SIM card slot. It has to be noted that built in 3G support will offer faster internet connectivity as compared to dongle support.

Battery: E-Tab Connect is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery offering 3 to 3.5 hours of Wi-Fi usage and Funbook Talk P360 is loaded with a 3,000 mAh battery delivering 4 hours of talk time.

Price: Both Lava E-Tab Connect is priced at Rs 8,499 and Micromax Funbook Talk P360 is available at a price of Rs 7,049.

In the end, both the tablets come with similar specifications expect for few differences. If the concern is on a built-in 3G support, Lava E-Tab Connect could be a better choice. At the same time, if the concern is on a relatively low priced tablet and not on 3G voice calling, the Micromax Funbook Talk P360 should be the right one.
