Today, South Korean tech titan Samsung unveiled its latest mid range tablet - the Galaxy Tab Active at the IFA 2014. It is a tablet which is completely rugged and can endure even extreme conditions.
Samsung claims the device can withstand a 1.2-meter (4-foot) drop solely with tis protective coating, and the Active gets much tougher when wrapped in a custom protective cover.
The company, which also unveiled the Galaxy Note 4 yesterday, is only offering the Titanium Green color option of the Galaxy Tab Active. Pricing hasn't been revealed, but you can expect the device to be priced around the same range as the Galaxy Tab 4 range.
Samsung Galaxy Tab Active: Key Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active sports an 8.0-inch TFT LCD display offering a WXGA resolution of 1280 x 800 pixel. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 Processor coupled with 1.5GB of RAM. It runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) OS.
The latest tablet is not much of an imaging device as it only uses 3.1MP auto focus rear camera with LED flash and a 1.2MP front-facing camera.
However, in the connectivity front, the device is pretty advanced as it employs 4G LTE / 3G HSPA+, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS, GLONASS and NFC features. The tablet houses 16GB internal memory and it can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card.
The 9.75mm thick and 393grams weighing Galaxy Tab Active is also IP67 certificated for dust and water resistance. Additionally making it one of the most rugged tablet, it also features an anti-shock covering. The tablet is powered by a 4,450mAh (User-replaceable) battery.
It's also got a variant of Samsung's S Pen in the C Pen, a tougher version of the standard stylus included with various Galaxy devices.
The Galaxy Tab Active is supported by Samsung KNOX for a defense-grade, comprehensive mobile security solution. Samsung also provides Mobile Care Service with the Galaxy Tab Active that delivers an extended basic warranty period up to three years, covering damage caused by accidents.
