Small tablets led by Apple iPad Mini seem to be the big sellers this holiday season and could become the majority of tablets. Tablets with 8 inch displays will open the market to new buyers who are attracted to their more portable size and cheaper price.

Apple entered the small tablet market with its iPad Mini in order to capture the small tablet market segment that is dominated by the 7 inch Android tablets, but with a near 8 inch display the tablet has created its own segment with many followers launching such similar devices.

Larger 10 inch tablets are more convenient for surfing the Internet, watching movies and playing games, but, the smaller tablets are the better ones for carrying around.

Hence, below is a list of 5 latest 8 inch tablet that have entered the Indian market recently.

Apple iPad Mini

iPad Mini comes with a 7.9 inch LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, 1GHz dual core Apple A5 processor, 5MP iSight rear camera, 1.2MP front camera for video calling, iOS 6, 16GB/32GB/64GB internal storage, 512MB RAM, Lightning port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a 16.3 Whr Li-Po battery delivering up to 10 hours backup.

Going by the recent reports, iPad Mini will be priced at Rs 21,900 and Rs 29,900 for 16GB Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+Cellular, Rs 27,900 and Rs 35,900 for 32GB Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+Cellular and Rs 33,900 and Rs 41,900 for 64GB Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+Cellular models respectively.

Swipe Velocity Tab

Swipe Telecom launched an Android Jelly Bean tablet dubbed as Velocity Tab this week at an affordable price tag of Rs 11,490. The device packs an 8 inch HD IPS 5 point multi-touch display with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, dual core Cortex A9 processor, 2MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera for video calling, 1GB RAM, 8GB onboard storage and expandable storage up to 32GB by means of micro SD card slot.

Further, the tablet has Wi-Fi, 3G via dongle, micro USB and HDMI ports and it is powered by a massive 4,500 mAh battery delivering up to 10 hours of backup.

Pantel Penta T-Pad WS802C-2G

Penta tablet features an 8 inch multi-touch capacitive screen, 1.2GHz Cortex A8 processor, Mali 400 GPU, Android 4.0.3 ICS operating system, VGA front camera, 1GB RAM, 8GB onboard storage. micro SD card slot, mini-USB and HDMI ports, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options and a 5,000 mAh battery of unknown backup.

Further, the 2G Pantel tablet also comes with a SIM card slot with bundled BSNL plans as a special launch consumer promotion. Under this offer, BSNL provides a SIM card with 4GB data free for 2 months.

Wishtel Ira Icon HD

Wishtel has also launched an 8 inch tablet named Ira Icon HD with an 8 inch TFT LCD multi-touch capacitive display with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, 1.2GHz Cortex A8 processor, Android 4.0 ICS operating system, 2MP rear camera, VGA front camera for video chatting, 1GB RAM, 8GB onboard storage, a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, in-built 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and mini HDMI and 6,000 mAh battery with up to 6 hours backup.

Moreover, priced at Rs 12,999, Ira Icon HD comes with access to WishLibrary and Wish Studio and is pre-loaded with productivity tools, social media apps, Office Suite and entertainment applications.

Intex iTab

Intex Technologies has launched iTab way too early with an 8 inch capacitive two point touch screen display, 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, 8GB internal, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB expandable storage, Wi-Fi, 3G via dongle, USB port, GPS, and a 5,000 mAh battery offering 5 to 6 hours of backup.

Intex iTab is priced at Rs 11,900 and can be purchased through online retailers in the country.
