While the Indian smartphone market rolls on its full glory with a host of handsets to choose from, the same may not be true for the native tablet market. In fact, we are yet to see similar kind of a surge in the tablet business in India.
Sure we have the likes of Apple iPad and the popular iPad Mini, but you won't be seeing those in abundance as you see smartphones. The basic reason for that being users are more prone to a small and effective smartphone rather than spend on a tablet.
But those mentalities are about to change for good with Xiaomi now getting into the act with the latest MiPad tablet. Xiaomi, also known as the "Apple of China," has come out with what potentially could be the iPad Mini killer.
Doing a recap of the specs on offer, the Xiaomi MiPad comes with a 7.9-inch (2048 × 1536 pixels) display at 326 ppi with 4:3 aspect ratio. It is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The display is manufactured by Sharp / AUO.
The tablet is powered by a massive 2.2 GHz NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor with 192-core Kepler GPU coupled with 2GB of RAM. The latest slate runs on Android-based MiUI ROM optimized for tablets.
Apart from that, Xiaomi has offered a standard imagining hardware in the tablet. It has an 8-megapixel rear camera with 5-element lens, Sony BSI sensor, f/2.0 aperture. Also add a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with OmniVision sensor and f/2.0 aperture at the front face of the device.
It also houses a 16GB / 64GB of internal storage unit and is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. Connectivity option is limited to WiFi 802.11/b/g/n/ac Dual Band (2X2 MIMO). The tablet measures 8.5mm thick and weighs 360 grams and comes powered by a monstrous 6700 mAh battery.
But while all the specs and numbers sound impressive, what exactly are the internal features of the device that could make it stand out among the rest that are operating in the market at the moment. We take a look at the top 5.
In case you haven't checked out on the specs of the new Xiaomi-made MiPad tablet, the device boasts a monstrous 6700mAh battery unit. We cannot define in numbers as to how big a deal that is, but know that the battery is big enough to run on a single charge for at least two whole days.
The MiPad comes with a rich screen output that's not only grand for playing games or watching videos, but is also quite effective for reading stuff online without twitching your eye brows. The tablet offers more than ten types of layout and is feature-rich for taking notes. Cloud sync is also available.
We have said this a million times, and we are repeating again. The camera fitted on a tablet isn't really a big deal and hence makers don't really stress on the kind of imaging they offer with their tablets. However, the MiPad pushes all those mentalities out of the window and comes offering a massive 8MP camera that's features a Sony BSI stacked sensor along with 1080p video recording, f/2.0 aperture.
The MiPad not only offers a big internal space, but it makes sure that you never run out of space even though the internal space is all eaten up. The tablet backs a massive 128GB microSD support that will probably never run out. However, if you still do, there's cloud.
There aren't many options in the tablet market when we discuss colors in the tablet business. In fact, they are only available in Black or White (or both). The MiPad, however, comes white, blue, green, yellow and pink offerings. So more colors to suit your style.
