This year we have seen the launch of the bigger screen - iPad Pro by Apple, replacing the iPad Air line-up. Now the company is planning to introduce a new iPad hardware at an event in mid-March.
According to the sources, the new iPad will have a 9.7 inch display, which is presumed to be called as the iPad Air 3 and will be launched alongside the iPhone 5se, a rumored 4 inch iPhone and a series of new Apple Watch models.
According to 9To5Mac, Apple might also launch two more products alongside the iPad Air 3. The other two products coming at the March event are much rumored 4 inch iPhone and a new Apple Watch.
The 4-inch iPhone is said to be called as iPhone 5se, and will be powered by a faster A9 processor including M9 chip with support to Siri, more storage and improved camera with the ability to take Live Photos.
On the other hand, the new line of Apple Watch models is said to include multiple new colors for the rubber Sport Bands, additional colors for the line of Hermes bands, a black version of Milanese Loop and an additional band line made out of new material.
The Cupertino-based company is currently planning to hold its keynote in the month of March, but the final dates are not yet confirmed. Here are all the latest rumored features about the new iPad Air 3, from design and new features to dimensions, specs, launch date, and price. Read on to know more.
A Thinner Design
In terms of design, there are no much rumors about the iPad Air 3 design, but it is expected that is something Apple keep close to its chest. However, there won't be many changes in the design department. It is likely that Apple will keep the same size and may trim down a little bit more to make it thinner.
The iPad Air 3 is likely to have a 9.7 inch display with some improvements on its predecessor. A couple of rumor hints that the display to have a 4K resolution of 2334x3112. This sounds a bit far from the current iPad Air 2 with 1536x2048 pixel resolution.
Storage Apple iPad Air 2 got rid of the 32GB option and offered 64GB for the same price, but the 16GB model is still available. We expect Apple to come with 32GB option instead of 16GB model.
Slow Motion Video
Apple has not really done with slow motion video feature on the iPad Air 2. There is an option but capped at 120fps, while the iPhone 6 can reach 240fps. So we expect the iPad Air 3 to have a twice the frames and twice the smoothness.
Better Battery Life
The iPad Air 2 battery life is quite good, providing up to 10 hours of web browsing and video playback. Still for the avid gamer, the battery is quite disappointing. We expect that the iPad Air 3 will get a battery boost.
No 3D Touch for Apple iPad Air 3!
The 3D Touch, a pressure sensitive display on the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus, will not make its appearance in the next iPad.
Powered By A9 CPU
According to rumors, the iPad Air 3 will get the latest and powerful A9 or an A9X chipset inside paired with 3GB RAM for blazing and flawless experience and will run on iOS 9. The A9 processor will be much more efficient than the A8 processor, which was found in the iPad Air 2.
8MP Camera iSight
According to Cult of Mac, the iPad Air 3 will have an 8 megapixel rear facing iSight camera and a 2.1 megapixel front-facing FaceTime camera.
Face recognition is already available in the Camera app, but it is only for recognizing and organizing photos. It does also seem a bit unnecessary, given that Apple has the Touch ID technology. If it wants to do convenient, biometric authentication it can use that. However, chances of happening are very low.
With the 2GB or 3GB of RAM, the iPad Air could allow for split-screen multitasking. According to few reports, the memory boost could hint at a split-screen multitasking feature exclusive to the new tablet, which might require more RAM in order to run smoothly.
