Aircel has launched a new Pocket Internet 24 pack at Rs. 24. The pack offers 100 MB of data with 30 days validity. Vodafone launched a similar trial pack for 2G and 3G customers. The pack was aimed to promote Internet usage, to people who are not accustomed to it. Looks like Aircel is looking to fallow in the foot-steps of it's competitor.
The pack will be made available for both 2G and 3G customers. So, what kind of speed, does the pack offer? Well, customers using 3G will be getting download speeds up to 3.6 Mbps and users using 2G will be getting speeds up to 64 kbps.
The Pocket Internet 24 is for now, available in Bihar, Chennai, Jammu & Kashmir, Kolkata, North East, Orissa, Rest of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. It will be made available in other regions from April 24th 2013, onwards.
Anupam Vasudev, Chief Marketing Officer, Aircel, said, "India has the third largest internet users in the world and is rapidly adding 70 million mobile internet users a year. It is ironic that despite this exponential growth, a majority of the Indian population has never experienced internet on their mobile phones. These customers have used internet in cyber cafes and desktops but have never experienced internet on their phones due to limited awareness and knowledge of mobile internet. With Pocket Internet 24, we aim to tap this segment and drive internet adoption among first time internet users."
"Pocket Internet 24 is developed keeping in mind the two key issues of a first time user - time to learn and the fear of overspending on data. The product will offer higher validity at lesser price to ensure ample time for the customers to learn and understand the usage of internet on mobile," he added.
Basically, Aircel has launched this new plan to compete directly with another Indian telecom major Vodafone. Last week, the operator introduced a new one time trial pack of Rs 25 on 2G and Rs 49 on 3G for its customers to boost mobile internet usage.
