Sony Smartband 2 with heart-rate sensor, notification alert feature and water resistance launched
Sony has put the wraps off its second generation of smart fitness wearable, called the Sony SmartBand 2. The new fitness band features a heart-rate monitor and can alert users of calls and other app notifications.

In terms of specs and features, the Sony SmartBand 2 comes with an optical heart-rate sensor that works with an accelerometer to give information on a user's pulse-rate.

It can track health and fitness, as well as mood and stress. The sensors on the device help it detect sleeping pattern of a user, and can give details about whether a user had a sound seep or not.
In addition to that it comes with alarm that can automatically wake a user up at the right time, on the basis of the sleeping cycle and pattern it recorded. The band records data and stores it the Sony Lifelog app, which offers data in easy-to-read charts.
The good part is that the wearable gets IP68 certification, which means that this is a water- and dust-resistant band that can be submerged in water till a depth of up to 3meters, for up to 30 minutes. It will save the device from dust and water based damages. Good for those who forgets to remove their wristbands while taking a shower!
The SmartBand 2 has a 1.4-inch e-paper display, and features a set of RGB LEDs that blink differently to notify user about missed calls, messages, and other app-based notifications. In addition, the band gives vibration alerts for notifications. Other features include of tap-based controls to quickly pause music, or switch between music tracks and do more.
The Sony Smartband 2 can connect with Sony's smartphone and alert users if they go away from their phone for over 10 meters.

In terms of compatibility, the Sony SmartBand 2 is compatible with all Android devices running 4.4 KitKat or higher, and iOS devices on iOS 8.2 or higher.
The Sony SmartBand 2's battery that recharges in just around an hour and it lasts a full two days. The wearable will be available in 60 countries globally (black and white colors initially, pink and indigo later on) in September 2015 for a price of $132 (119 euro)
