CES 2018: Western Digital unveils world’s smallest Flash drive with 256GB storage memory

Western Digital (WD) showcased world's smallest flash drive along with three other storage devices at CES 2018. The devices include wireless SSD (Solid-state device), a high capacity USB drive and a compact rugged SSD (Solid-State drive).

The company unveiled SanDisk Ultra Fit flash drive which is claimed to be the world's first tiniest storage device. The on paper specifications of the tiny 256GB USB flash drive includes speeds up to 130MB/s and supports both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. WD also showcased its prototype 1TB Type C model of the Ultra Fit at CES 2018. It is not yet informed by when the storage devices will be available, however its pricing range is Rd. 1,400 approx. for the 16GB model and Rs. 9,600 for the 256GB storage unit.

SanDisk has also showcased two new SSD's (Solid-State drive) which include My Passport Wireless SSD and SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD. The highlight of Passport Wireless SSD is the one-touch card copy which enables editing and sharing of contents quite fast. It has the ability to access the device within third-party mobile creative apps, like FiLMiC Pro and LumaFusion directly. SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is meant for saving and editing hi-res photos and videos on-the-go, SanDisk further added.

The WD my Passport wireless SSD is capable of reading wit speed up to 65MB/s and also supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi. The company revealed that the SSD is embedded with USB3.0 and can also be used as power bank and has 6,700mAh battery. This huge battery has a 10-hour battery life with continuous usage.

 

The My Passport Wireless SSD price ranges from Rs. 15,000 approximately for the 250GB model to Rs 51,000 approximately for the 2TB model.

WD also announced the USB-C SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD. It is an IP55 rating water and dust resistance USB drive with storage range of 250GB to 2TB, WD also launched the USB-C SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD. This pocket-sized SSD features read speeds up to 550MB/s and capacities ranging from 250GB to 2TB. As the pricing is concerned the 250GB start at Rs 6,300 approximately and Rs 45,000 approximately for the 2TB version.

The figures are quite staggering; however we still don't have any information by when the USB devices will be made available in India.
