Western Digital launches new 4K-ready NVME SSD to boost gaming performance
Western Digital's new offering to the gaming enthusiasts.
Western Digital (WD) has a released a new storage solution called the Black 3D NVMe, an SSD designed to run 4K and Ultra HD graphics with ease, and to provide seamless functionality to gamers and video producers.
The new Black 3D NVMe comes in three storage variants - 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB, but the top-end model offers the fastest speeds. The 250GB and 500GB models offer up to 3,400 MB/s reading, while the 1TB model claims to offer up to 2,800 MB/s write speed and 500,000 random-read IOPs for multi-threaded applications.
As for the pricing, the 250GB, 500GB and the 1TB will hold a price tag of $120, $230 and $450, respectively and will be available through the e-commerce portals and other distributors.
WD is known for offering storage solutions to its consumers. The company previously launched its My Cloud Home (review) that allows you to backup your data providing tools for access and sharing at the same time, making a personal cloud that only you can control.
The WD My Cloud Home is an external hard drive that doubles as a personal cloud server for user's files. You can directly plug the device into the router and once it's connected, you can access all the backed up data from around the world.
Users can use the My Cloud Home as just another drive that can be accessed from the computer, simply dragging and dropping the content - the difference being you don't have to be around to access the content, assuming that you leave the device connected to the internet all the time.
Additionally, you can access the device using respective apps available. The desktop app allows you to browse through the content the same way you access them via computer. The phone app, in turn, provides you a more mobile experience and it automatically backs up your phone to keep your phone data safe.
The device also allows you to backup external hard drives and USB drives using the app. For those wondering, there's no option of copying data back to the external drive or the flash drive, at least no directly or automatically.
