Gabit Smart Ring Review: Is a Rs 13,000 Ring Smarter Than Your Smartwatch?

Smart rings are finally having their moment in India. What was a niche, mostly imported idea a couple of years ago has turned into a genuine category, and the pitch is simple enough to be tempting. All the health tracking of a smartwatch, none of the screen fatigue, and a battery you charge once a week instead of every night. The catch has always been price, because the names most people know, from Oura to Samsung to Ultrahuman, sit well above the twenty five thousand rupee mark, and some of them still ask you to pay a monthly subscription on top just to read your own data.

That is the gap the Gabit Smart Ring is built for. It is a homegrown ring from a Gurugram startup founded by an ex Zomato co-founder, it undercuts the global names by a wide margin, and crucially it does not charge you a subscription. On paper it looks like the sensible Indian answer to a still expensive category. I wore the size 12 black unit for weeks, through work, workouts, cricket and everything in between, to see whether the value story holds up in daily life or whether the corners had to be cut somewhere you would feel. Here is how it went.

Gabit Smart Ring Review: Two-Minute Review

The first thing I want to say about the Gabit Smart Ring is that it solved the one problem that quietly kills every smartwatch relationship I have ever had, which is the charger. I did not have to think about charging it every single night, and on my size 12 unit in black the battery comfortably stretched across the better part of a week. Compared to a smartwatch that is really its one clear advantage, because the ring has no screen, no notifications and no way to take a call, and what it does instead is stay out of your way and simply record your body all day and all night.

The tracking impressed me more than I expected at this price. Sleep, resting heart rate, HRV, stress, skin temperature, steps and recovery all get logged in the background, and Gabit turns that data into scores and plain language you can actually act on. The catch is a ring is a solid object on your finger, so it keeps asking to come off. Cricket, dumbbells, even washing my face, all of it meant sliding the ring off first. That is true of every smart ring, but it is a real part of living with one.

For me it landed as a device I liked and would keep wearing. The battery life is a genuine strength, the health data is honest, and the no subscription pricing makes it easier to recommend than the international names. Just know that a smaller size than mine will likely last fewer days because the battery shrinks with the ring, and know that the app still needs a cleanup before it matches the quality of the hardware.

Gabit Smart Ring Review: Design and Build

Rating: 3.5 / 5

Physically, the Gabit is a smart ring done properly. It is light, it is slim, and after the first hour I stopped noticing it was there, which is exactly what you want from something you are meant to wear around the clock. The titanium shell keeps the weight down and the profile is thin enough that it slid under my other rings and did not feel like a gadget bolted to my hand. Getting the sizing right matters more here than with a normal ring, since Gabit uses its own sizing system and expects you to try a sizing kit first, and I would strongly advise not skipping that step because a ring you cannot comfortably wear all day defeats the entire point.

The one thing I would flag on the build is that the finish is not as tough as the marketing suggests. My black unit picked up small scuffs and shine on the coating over regular use, and that is worth setting expectations around if you are the kind of person who wants your gadgets to look pristine. It is also, again, a hard object on your finger, which brings us back to the removal problem. Between cricket, dumbbells and even washing my face, I found myself taking it off several times a day, and every time you slide a small ring off near a sink or a gym bench you are one careless moment away from losing it. That is the nature of the category rather than a Gabit specific failure, but it is a real part of the ownership experience and I would rather tell you now than have you discover it later.

Gabit Smart Ring Review: Performance

Rating: 4 / 5

This is where the Gabit quietly won me over. The ring keeps a constant record of sleep, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, stress, skin temperature and daily movement, and it packages all of it into a recovery style score that actually made sense to me in the morning. Sleep tracking is the standout, which is unsurprising because this is precisely where rings beat watches, since you are far more likely to keep a ring on through the night than a chunky watch. The breakdown of sleep stages and the consistency tracking gave me a clearer picture of my nights than any wrist wearable I have used.

The workout side is more of a mixed bag, and it ties directly into my software complaint below. The ring supports a long list of workout modes and will auto detect some activity, but a screenless ring will never give you the live, glanceable metrics a watch does during a session, and heart rate can wander during intense movement. There is no built-in GPS either, so runners and cyclists who care about routes will still want their phone or a watch. I would also temper expectations on blood oxygen, because Gabit's own materials are inconsistent on this and in practice you should not buy this ring for reliable SpO2 readings. Treat the Gabit as an excellent passive wellness recorder, strongest at sleep, recovery and long term trends, rather than a live training computer, and it delivers.

Gabit Smart Ring Review: Compatibility

Rating: 3 / 5

Here is my honest sticking point. The hardware is more polished than the software wrapped around it. Gabit's app holds a lot of genuinely useful data, but it also tries to do far too much at once, and opening it often felt busier than it needed to be. There is health tracking, nutrition logging, an AI coach, community features and a fair amount of promotional pushing for other Gabit products, all competing for attention on the same screens. When I just wanted to check my recovery and my sleep, I had to wade past a lot of other noise to get there.

My clear ask to Gabit would be to make the operating system cleaner and more focused, particularly around workouts. There is simply a lot happening in the app, and a health tracker earns trust by feeling calm and dependable, not by feeling like a marketplace. The underlying data and the way it is explained are good, so this is not a criticism of substance, it is a criticism of presentation. A stripped back, health first view with the extras tucked away would elevate the whole product, and the good news is that this is exactly the kind of thing a software update can fix without touching the ring on your finger.

Gabit Smart Ring Review: Capacity and Efficiency

Rating: 4 / 5

Battery is the reason I would recommend this ring to a certain kind of person without hesitation. On my size 12 unit I comfortably got close to a week of real use before reaching for the charging case, and the top up is quick when it comes. After years of watches that demand a nightly plug in, having a wearable that I charged roughly once a week felt genuinely freeing, and it is the single biggest practical advantage the Gabit holds over any smartwatch.

One important caveat that buyers should understand before they order, and it is a matter of physics rather than opinion. The battery inside a smart ring scales with the size of the ring, so a larger ring like my size 12 holds a bigger cell and lasts longer, while a smaller size will very likely give you fewer days between charges. If you wear a small ring size, mentally shave a day or two off the numbers you see in reviews like mine, because your experience will not match a larger unit. It will still comfortably beat a smartwatch, but it is only fair to set that expectation up front.

Gabit Smart Ring Review: Value for Money

Rating: 4.5 / 5

Yes, and that is arguably its strongest argument. At a price of around Rs 13,000 to Rs 14,500 the Gabit undercuts Oura, Samsung and Ultrahuman by a wide margin, and unlike some of them it does not lock your own health data behind a monthly subscription. You are getting nearly a week of battery, solid sleep and recovery tracking and a genuinely comfortable ring for less than half of what the global names ask.

So on pure value it is easy to recommend. The money you save is real, and for most people the tracking is more than good enough to justify it. Just remember that the value is in the wellness tracking, not in workout depth or notifications, so it is great value for the right buyer and a poor fit for someone who actually wanted a watch.

Gabit Smart Ring Review: Verdict

For me, the Gabit Smart Ring earned its place. I liked the experience, the battery life was a real highlight, and the health data was honest and useful. It is not flawless, the app needs to calm down and the ring needs to come off more often than I would like, but the core idea is sound and the execution is largely there. This is a confident, well priced first ring from an Indian brand, and with a cleaner app it could be one of the easiest wellness wearables to recommend in the country.

Should You Buy

Buy it if you want a quiet, always on health tracker that you never have to charge daily, you care most about sleep, recovery and long term trends, and you like the idea of skipping the subscriptions that international rings tie you into. At its street price the Gabit undercuts the big global names by a wide margin while still feeling like a serious device, and for a lot of Indian buyers that combination of no recurring fee and nearly a week of battery will be the whole argument.

Should You Skip

Skip it if your day is full of the exact moments when a ring has to come off. If you are constantly at the gym with weights in your hands, out on the field playing sport, or simply someone who does not want to keep removing and misplacing a small object, a wrist wearable will frustrate you far less. And if you specifically need notifications, live workout metrics, GPS or dependable blood oxygen, this is not the device for you, because a ring by its nature does not offer those things.

Gabit Smart Ring Review: How I tested

The Gabit Smart Ring is scored on a weighted basis, with more importance given to the things a ring is actually meant to do well.
