Sonos 27 Launched With AI Features and ChatGPT Integration: What You Need to Know

Sonos is taking its audio ecosystem in a more intelligent direction with the launch of Sonos 27, the company's next-generation audio operating system. The new platform introduces a redesigned app, AI-powered controls, custom AI agents and new ways to move audio between Sonos devices.

Alongside Sonos 27, the company has also announced plans to bring the Sonos Beam Ultra and Sonos Ace Ultra to India, expanding its premium audio portfolio in the country.

Sonos 27 Brings AI Assistants and ChatGPT Integration

A major highlight of Sonos 27 is its expanded support for AI assistants and agents. The company has introduced Sonos 27voice, its proprietary voice assistant designed to help users discover music and create playlists based on their mood and preferences.

Sonos is also introducing Sonos 27mcp, which allows external AI assistants and agents to interact with a Sonos audio system. The feature will support ChatGPT, allowing users to ask the AI chatbot to play music in specific rooms or areas of their home without leaving the conversation.

The company has also previewed Sonos Custom Agents, which will allow users to create personalised AI agents with their own AI models, personalities and voices.

Sonos Fabric Enables Smarter Audio Switching

Another key addition is Sonos Fabric, a technology designed to allow Sonos devices to detect one another and adapt according to their surroundings and positioning.

One feature enabled by the technology is headphone linking, which connects the Sonos Ace Ultra directly with a Sonos audio system. Initially offered through Early Access, it will allow users to move audio between nearby Sonos speakers and compatible headphones.

Sonos is also introducing Sonos Positioning Technology, which uses high-frequency sound to determine where a speaker is positioned. The system can then automatically adjust the speaker's role within a setup, including support for a new portable surrounds experience.

Redesigned Sonos App Coming with Sonos 27

Sonos 27 also brings a redesigned companion application with updated navigation and other interface improvements. The company aims to make controlling connected speakers and managing audio across multiple rooms more straightforward.

The broader focus is on making a Sonos setup feel less like a collection of individual speakers and more like an intelligent, interconnected audio system.

Sonos Play Ultra Coming to India

Alongside the operating system announcement, Sonos has confirmed the India availability of the Sonos Play Ultra portable speaker.

The device can connect over Wi-Fi with other Sonos products for multi-room audio and stereo pairing. It also supports a Charging Base and features a removable utility loop for portability.

The Sonos Play Ultra offers up to 24 hours of battery life and carries an IP67 rating for protection against dust and water. It will be available in India from September 8.

Meanwhile, the Sonos Beam Ultra and Sonos Ace Ultra will also launch in India, although the company has not yet revealed their India prices or exact availability dates.

Sonos 27 Marks a Bigger AI Push

With Sonos 27, the company is clearly moving beyond traditional speaker controls and into AI-powered audio experiences. ChatGPT integration, custom AI agents and automatic speaker positioning could make multi-room audio considerably more intuitive.

The bigger question will be whether these AI features provide meaningful improvements to everyday listening or simply add another layer of complexity. For now, Sonos 27 represents the company's most significant move towards making its audio ecosystem more conversational, adaptive and connected.
