Vodafone Idea Starts Rolling Out Unlimited Data On Select Postpaid Plans

Vodafone Idea has quietly introduced unlimited, or “limitless,” data for postpaid customers in select telecom circles. The move isn’t nationwide yet, but the benefit is already visible in Andhra Pradesh, suggesting a phased rollout.

Vi Starts Rolling Out Unlimited Data On Select Postpaid Plans

This isn’t the first time Vi has experimented with unlimited-style offerings, but the timing is notable. With competition heating up in the postpaid segment, telcos are increasingly using data-heavy plans to nudge users away from prepaid recharges.

Plans Start At ₹451, With A Fair-Use Limit

The unlimited data benefit applies to Vi’s individual postpaid plans, which start at ₹451 and go up to ₹1,201. On paper, these plans now offer unlimited 4G and 5G data, which is appealing at this price point.

That said, there is a fair-usage policy in place. Monthly data usage is capped at around 300GB. Once that limit is crossed, speeds drop to 64 Kbps for the rest of the billing cycle. This mirrors how similar plans from other operators are structured, so it’s not entirely unexpected.

OTT Benefits Sweeten The Deal

Along with unlimited data, Vi is also bundling OTT benefits with these postpaid plans. While the company hasn’t highlighted any changes to the OTT lineup itself, the inclusion adds extra value, especially for users already paying for multiple subscriptions.

The updated plans are now reflecting on Vi’s official website, indicating that the rollout is already underway, at least in the initial circle.

Postpaid Is Clearly The Focus

For Vi, this move looks like a clear attempt to strengthen its postpaid base. The operator has traditionally performed relatively well in postpaid compared to prepaid, and adding unlimited data could help it attract higher-value customers.

It also puts Vi on more even footing with Bharti Airtel, which recently introduced similar unlimited data benefits across its postpaid offerings. Like Vi, Airtel also applies a fair-usage cap before throttling speeds.

What About Jio?

Interestingly, Reliance Jio is now the only major operator yet to introduce unlimited 4G data for postpaid users in this price segment. That’s a bit of a role reversal, given Jio is usually the first to shake up pricing or data structures.

Given the current trend, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Jio respond with a comparable offering. At the same time, both Vi and Airtel are also expected to expand their unlimited data benefit to more circles over time.
