Android 4.1 Jelly bean: HTC One S Powered by Snapdragon S4 Getting Updated
In the second week of December, reports revealed citing a reliable source a list of HTC devices to receive Jelly Bean update really soon. The leaked JellyBean update list included HTC smartphones including the X+, J, One X, One XL, Droid Incredible 4G LTE, EVO 4G LTE, One S C2, One SV, One VX and One S.
Well, it seems like the information has started turning out to be true as tech world is reporting that HTC owners in major markets including US have started receiving Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OTA update of 600 MB.
Reportedly, the update version number is 3.16.401.8 and measures 612.27 MB, further after upgrading the HTC One S will be running on Android 4.1.1 and HTC Sense version 4+. Hence, it is advised to connect to a Wi-Fi network before installing the update.
With the newly released update to Jelly Bean will allow HTC One S users will be able to experience numerous improvements including an under-the-hood system dubbed Project Butter which boosts responsiveness and increases the framerate of the user interface to 60 frames per second for a more fluid experience.
The update also brings HTC's new updated Sense UI to the One S called Sense 4+ along with the Google Now voice-recognition system - a digital search assistant designed to compete with Apple's Siri.
In certain markets, such as Taiwan, India, and some European (usually Eastern European) markets, the One S will use the older Snapdragon S3 MSM8260 SoC, with a 1.7 GHz dual-core Scorpion CPU and Adreno 220 GPU. In some markets, both devices are available, notably the UK. The change is speculated to be caused by a shortage of Snapdragon S4 chips.
The two versions have slightly different packaging, the S4 is model Z520e/Z520m and states "Processor: Dual Core, 1.5GHz"/"CPU Speed 1.5 GHZ, dual core, whereas the S3 is model Z560e and states "Processor: Dual Core". Currently the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OTA update is only rolling out to HTC One S powered by Snapdragon S4 chips. Hence, Indian owners will still have to wait for the update, which is expected to arrive in early 2013.
