Apple Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks Unveiled At WWDC 2013: A Quick Look At the Highlighted Features


Besides, the mobile operating system iOS 7, Apple also released the developer preview of OS X Mavericks, the new operating system for Mac at the WWDC 2013. This is the 10th major release of what is claimed by the company as world's most advanced operating system. OS X Mavericks will come with more then 200 news features, Maps, iBooks, Finder, all new Safari , Tags and Tabs. Also, the new OS brings enhancements to multi-display support for power users.

Apple Maps

Maps integration throughout Mavericks gives users maps from within Mail, Contacts and Calendar. Maps from Mac can be sent to iPhone for voice navigation.


With iBooks, users will have instant access to your existing iBooks library, as well as the more than 1.8 million titles in the iBooks store. iBooks can also be synced with iCloud, so you can pick off things from where you left it, on other devices like the iPad. Users can make make notes or highlights on the books, which would prove to be helpful for referencing.


Apple says that the new Safari will now offer faster performance and more energy efficient. Safari's new process-per-tab architecture is said to make the browser more responsive, stable and secure. It also comes with Shared Links, which makes it easy to discover, read and share interesting new content from Twitter and LinkedIn, all in one place. The new Safari will also include a new feature, Top Sites screen, which adds new column for bookmarks. you can change your Top Sites by draging a bookmark from your side column wherever you want it in Top Sites.


Calender is now integrated with maps, continuous scrolling so you can zip through weeks or months, and a new Inspector to simplify event creation and editing.

Finder Tags & Tabs


Tags bring new ways for you to organize and find your files anywhere on your Mac or in iCloud. You can easily tag any file in the Finder, in iCloud, or when saving a new document. Tags appear in the Finder Sidebar to enable you to view files by project or category. Finder Tabs reduce the clutter on your desktop by consolidating multiple finder windows into one window with multiple tabs. You can customize the view for each tab, move files between tabs, and even run the Finder with multiple tabs open in full-screen.

Full-screen apps

Mavericks allows you to put full-screen apps on multiple monitors and switch among them effortlessly.


Interactive notifications allows you to reply to a message, respond to a FaceTime call or even delete an email without leaving the app you're using. Websites can now use notifications to keep you up to date on the latest news, scores and other information. While you are away, notifications makes sure you see what happened, while your Mac was asleep.

Xcode 5 tool-set for developers, measures every aspect of app performance and energy use, as well as app testing.

Apple has announced that the Mavericks will be made available by this fall. However, the Cupertino tech giant has not mentioned the release date or pricing of the operating system.
