Google Chrome's “Ok Google” Voice Search Without Add-Ons Coming Soon
Here comes Google voice-search on the desktop which is free of Chrome extensions. Google has announced the latest Chrome Beta browser for desktop which enables the users to now use their voice to Google search and perform several other features.
Thus now, any time you open the Google homepage or open a new tab, you can just say "OK Google" to ask a question or perform a command, such as scheduling a reminder. Google typically releases finished versions of the software several weeks after the beta, so you can expect to see the new version of the browser soon within this month.
The latest beta version has the option enabled, though according to the Google Chrome Blog the feature "will be rolled out to English (U.S.) users on Windows, Mac and Linux over the next few days, with support for additional languages and Chrome OS coming soon."
Besides searches, you can also use this feature to set Google Now reminders and alarms, trigger local searches and get directions. For the most part, this is the same functionality Android users can get through the "Ok Google" voice search on KitKat devices.
With this update, Chrome now also supports the Web Audio API JavaScript API for processing and synthesizing audio in web apps out of the box (which was probably needed to make "Ok Google" work, too).
