Java Poses Risk Even After Security Update: US Government
The Java software put forward by Oracle Corp years ago for web browsers involved several risks preventing its smooth usage. They introduced a security update recently which was meant to tackle these issues. But according to the security department of US, the software still poses risks in spite of the security update. The best suggestion made was to disable this feature unless it is highly recommended for particular scenarios.
Last Sunday Oracle came with its latest software update followed by the initial warning from the Government on the software. According to security department, the bugs in the software paved the way for hackers to perform several crimes and even identity theft.
Personal and confidential information like credit-card numbers, passwords and banking credentials could be easily misused by these hackers making use of the bugs in the software. The multipurpose functionality of the Java browser software is what led to its mass usage. Users can work with multiple platforms like windows, Linux, or Macs just with a single set of code.
As per reports from Kaspersky Lab, about half the percentage of cyber attacks that occurred last year was due to the security issues with this software. As it is concluded that the security update too could not solve the problem, it is better to disable it to prevent future mishaps.
For disabling it, you have to first visit the Control Panel of your system. Then you can open the Java icon and tap on the Security panel. There is an option with the label "enable Java content in the browser". The check box associated with this option just needs to be cleared for disabling the feature.
