A billion mark in apps download

Last week, which was the last one of 2011 saw a huge jump in the apps download and activated devices as if lot of them have received mobile devices as gifts for the holiday season. A total of 1.2 billion downloads were recorded combining the top two mobile platforms iOS and Android. This bump is quite significant as the week before this it was only 875 million downloads.

The figure has shown an increase of 60% in the apps downloads when compared to the early December. This is mainly led by United States which exhibited 509 million app downloads. The second place is occupied by Google with the announcement of 3.7 million activations on Christmas weekend.

However, Christmas time has got nothing to do with the download count when it comes to the countries outside United States. For instance, China is a country without any specific religion and it has come to the second position in the overall app downloads with about 99 million. But the Chinese New Year which comes close to Christmas contributed to this app download count.

Still a large part of the world has not entered the smartphone market this figure is reached in the major holiday season and with more users there can be more downloads even during the non-holiday times of this year.
